No, they're citizens of Canada. Residency is a much more fluid concept. It's very simply where you live most of the time. Being born in BC doesn't grant you any special rights. If you move to Quebec for 6 months then you become a resident of Quebec, eligible to vote there. If you want to vote in BC, you have to live in BC.

      No, sorry.

I'm from Quebec. Born and raised. The only place in North America any of my ancestors have ever lived is in Quebec, except for my Iroquois ancestors, who I suppose trekked their way from the Bering strait across northern North America.

And, speaking as a Quebecer, Quebec sucks.

Yes, but what about people who spend 7 months a year in the US?

They shouldn't have a vote in provincial or municipal elections where they maintain residence in Canada?

Why should somebody who spends 7 months a year in Arizona have more right to vote in BC than somebody who spends 7 months a year in Quebec?

Put your stuff in perspective - most things you say "weren't broken to start with" actually were. Not allowing women to change their name is a consequence of the quiet revolution: it's a kind of affirmative action. As for the cegeps, Quebec still had its education system in the hands of the Church when they were created. The general climate meant they needed something radically new, that has to be built from the ground up.

The people reading this thread silently agreeing with you. And, to some extent, you too, for being the cheerleader of the "Quebec must change" crowd.

What the **** are you on about? Taking away a woman's choice to change her name...as well as her husband's choice to change his name is a form of affirmative action? Don't get stupid on me here. I'm not saying that the default action should be to change the woman's name to match the man's...which it wasn't in 1981, as the fact that my mother kept her maiden name by not doing anything can attest to; I'm saying that even if the default is no change then the government shouldn't be in the ****ing business of telling people what to call themselves. Talk about paternalistic.

That's always the ****ing climate. Quebec is the little guy, surrounded by the evil Anglos. Let's make everybody buy blue and white speakers for their computers. Let's make it illegal to wear adidas during months containing an "i"

No, Quebec needs to ****ing stop changing. That's it's problem. Every ****ing year it's something new. They still haven't gotten a grip on the **** they made up 20 years ago, but they're still at it.

Quite honestly, I don't know if there's another province in Canada or state in the US run as stupidly and inefficiently as Quebec.
