  • What, a man can't enjoy a good tackle? And I do mean a clean one, call it an English one if you want, definately not Italian. There's very few things I enjoy about Italian football.
See, English football is crap*, but it is fun to watch.

    * though not as bad as it used to be and should be (dam foreigners )

    • Yeah, Italian (league) football is excellent but boring to watch.

Watching it all fall apart in scandal is quite enjoyable.

Actually, I thought they strung some nice passes together last night, to be fair. They even scored two goals, which is one more than would be expected.

Yes, since I posted that I've seen the press reports saying that the injury may not be so bad. Good news.

You prolly misread my post. Since Germany isn't my preferred team there cant be much nationalistic drum-beating. But when some english Argentina-Germany basher summarizes the relationship of the average english fan to Germany as "rivalry"....well...I hardly can leave this uncommented.

              • Siron, please. I reject your persistant claim that I am 'bashing' Argentina and Germany. Argentina are my favourites to win the WC, and I respect them, and the German goalkeeper is a hero in my part of London, despite his little error that may have cost us the European Cup.

Really, I am not anti-German, any more than I am anti-Scottish or anti-Australian. I stand by my opinion that sporting rivalry does not equate to nationalistic hatred. The English have been subject to at least as many quips, digs and jests on this thread as any other nation, but I and other english posters haven't taken great offence.

If I take this opportunity to congratulate Germany on their many tournament successes, and to add that Franz Beckenbauer and Gerd Muller were childhood heroes of mine, will you feel better?

                • Speaking of Germany, what a brilliantly organised world cup it's been. Really friendly, hardly any trouble. Nice relaxed policing.

                  Great stuff.

                  • Well, at least until they played the South Korean anthem twice instead of the Togolese anthem.
Well done to the British police, and the police of all other countries with renowned idiots who saw it as a chance to join the World Cup of fighting.
Well, except the Australian police - those idiots actually let Tim Cahill go to Germany to start fights and didn't even try to confiscate his passport.

                    Come on Korea!

                        • Well, Korea were disappointing in the first half. They're either missing Hiddink or they're missing the homer refs, but they're not looking good.

                            Probably both.

I never expected much of Korea but it seems I still overestimated them. Not a good match so far.

                            • Locutus, (and other Dutch posters) what do you think of the Robben / van Persie spat? Johan Cruyff seemed to think that RvP may have had a point.

It might be a Chelsea thing, as Joe Cole has a problem passing the ball too.
