That's my point. What good does it do to state that there has been an increase in terrorism if you are going to fiddle the numbers.

Terrorism is small beer. AIDS is something we should be worried about. More Americans have died of AIDS in the last year than have died from terrorist acts. More Americans have died from other preventable diseases, and climate change is probably accountable for more deaths as well.

Thing is aggie the folks that die from these such diseases dont all drop dead at one time, id say a plane taking out a 100 story buildig is gonna get the headlines and raise the numbers of death from terrisom cause its mass casulalty. Besides that comparing infectious disease like that to terrriosts deaths dont have a dam thing to do with one another.
When you find yourself arguing with an idiot, you might want to rethink who the idiot really is.

                Hey Aggie:

I think I'm going to respond to the threat of AIDS somewhat differently then the threat of a terrorist. At least with AIDS I have a choice, a bomb doesn't.

Of course they do. I would really rather die from a terrorist attack than from some horrible but preventable disease. It's about where society focuses its resources on helping prevent unnecessary deaths.

Terrorism is being treated as a massive threat to civilization, when it is no such thing. The fact is that the terrorists would love it if you believed it was the worst threat, because that's what they are trying to get people to believe.

People need to face up to the fact that Al Qaeda are a bunch of putzes who got lucky once. They are certainly not some James Bond-like enemy of immense sophistication.

Really? Most of the people who catch AIDS have no real choice in the matter. One reason is that a lot of them are so poorly educated that they make bad decisions, or live in societies where one gender has no real decision making power about sex.

Some people are infected because their partner is on the downlow or something like that. It's not much different other than that terrorists make louder noises.

The worst thing is that your abstinence friends completely refuse to acknowledge this and condemn thousands to death by refusing to support safe sex campaigns.

isnt that the irony of all of the issues of life???
I mean for real who in their right mind would want to know hey the big bomb is gonna drop?? What the **** would they all do?? I for ne would rather it just hit annd be dead thats it. But u refer to terriosm as a joke, when in reality it isnt for a lot of folks who have survived the attack itself. There is no just way to accept or reject terriosm but to just deal with it, and to do that one must accpet the fact that it will knock on ur front door later

It is a joke. More people die from accidental falls. Terrorism has been exaggerated out of all proportion by people with a political stake in the issue. But if you really cared about saving lives, resources would be put elsewhere where they would do more good.

Just because something is intensely visible in the media does not make it a pressing concern.

Im more likely to die of many more things out of my control and within my control than terrorism. I think we should spend more money on autoerotic aphyxiation.

That's just the thing. I could be killed through a subway bomb just for stepping on the train. The fact that their decisions do influence the outcome of AIDS is vastly different from the terrorists.

Some people are infected because their partner is on the downlow or something like that. It's not much different other than that terrorists make louder noises.
True, and you missed the better example of the children who through no fault of their own are born with AIDS. The problem with terrorists is that in order to do anything about AIDS you need to first have law and order. Terrorists disrupt law and order which prevents you from doing anything to better their lot until you do something about the terrorists.

The worst thing is that your abstinence friends completely refuse to acknowledge this and condemn thousands to death by refusing to support safe sex campaigns.
Who said anything about abstinence? It's not like I can slip on a condom to protect myself from terrorism.

i think that all depends on ur definition of terrisom. U do not need al queada to blow up two huge bulidings. You can have a 12 yo bully ****ing with ya to cause mulitple deaths. its still a form of terrisom.
Most likey then not that the things in the media arent an immedieate attention, but at times they are. I would like for example to point out that the kid just stolen that made media attention would be a pressing concern

I'd say a large chunk of Manhattan being destroyed is a pressing concern.

I'd say bombs on Madrid trains are a pressing concern.

I'd say bombs on London subways and buses are a pressing concern.

I'd say sarin gas in Tokyo is a pressing concern.
