I have seen very little in what kid says that makes sense starting with the initial assumption of the exercise of monopoly power when an industry has a pathetic below average ROR unless you pick ridiculously short time periods for the assessment.
Whatever. I'll just move on or just shut up.
Second I have not seen a refutation of the idea that it is the VERY competitive markets that will not see new entrants since there is insufficient profitability to warrant entry
We just went over this, and you didn't really counter. It seemed that you agreed. Since it takes many years to build a refinery current returns don't really matter. The returns that matter are the future returns. That's the business theory, which is different from the simplified economics theory.

    • Yeah, I just have a degree in Economics and another one in Accounting. But I'm always wrong and you're always right. That's perfect Vel logic. Continue on with your bad self.

And this is what I can't fathom. How you got a degree in Economics is one of those mysteries that ranks right up there with the origins of the Universe.

Seriously.....given your almost complete lack of understanding re: basic economic principles, I'm mystified.

That's okay though, since you've dodged or refused to answer the last dozen or so questions I've posed, I'll leave you to your....whatever it is you think you're doing.

      (also degreed in Economics, btw)
The list of published books grows. If you're curious to see what sort of stories I weave out, head to Amazon.com and do an author search for "Christopher Hartpence." Help support Candle'Bre, a game created by gamers FOR gamers. All proceeds from my published works go directly to the project.

YOU in fact have no idea about economics.

        • Oh God....I'm laughing so hard that my sides are beginning to hurt.

A statement like that from someone who actually sees economic value in the writings of Marx is....pure gold.

          • I see value in most stuff written about economics, because I've actually read it and understand it.

            • /me tries to keep a straight face.

I'm sorry. I know you're trying, and I guess you mean well.

Please, continue with your astute analysis of the current situation.

I'll content myself with just watching the show. This will likely improve your...focus.

              • Why don't you try harder to understand whats going on instead of focusing so much on this Red Team (Whatever) Team crap. I'm sure you will come out of it with a better understanding.

Well, Kiddero...I think I've got a pretty solid understanding.

Most of the folks who've been contributing to the discussion over the last several pages seem to be pretty much on the same page.

There's one notable exception to that, however.

                  One.

And it's funny...it always seems to be the same person who's the exception...pretty much any time any discussion of anything even remotely resembling economics crops up.

                  That exception seems to be....you.

Now, I realize that this is most probably on account of a vast conspiracy against you....some strange alignment of dark forces that are doing their level best to make you look bad.

Or...it could be that you just plain do it to yourself.

One of these explanations is logical.

The other one is the one you most probably believe.

I'll leave you to figure out which is which, and end the threadjack here.

                    • It is pretty obvious from what you just said that you've already decided that whatever I say is wrong because I am a Marxist although you admit that you only know about Marxism from what opponents of it have read. So why do I bother even talking to you. Unfortunately, you probably have a worse understanding of economics from these conversation because of your preconseption that the opposite from what I say is always true.

                      • In the interest of not continuing the threadjack, I'll only respond to the untrue charges directed specifically at me, and leave you to make a fool of yourself with the rest.

It is pretty obvious from what you just said that you've already decided that whatever I say is wrong because I am a Marxist

Actually, that's not quite right. The reason I have decided that whatever you say is wrong is because you've proven your ineptitude time and time again. The fact that you're also a Marxist just makes it that much easier to poke fun at you. It is, in that regard....a splendid bonus.

although you admit that you only know about Marxism from what opponents of it have read.

Also untrue. It might surprise you, the books I have on my shelf. I've read him many times, and I've come to the conclusion that he was simply misunderstood. It is my firm belief that Marx was a bold experimenter in comedy. In fact, his fine work stands as an excellent example of some of the best comedy of the age. It's hysterical.

So why do I bother even talking to you.

I suspect the same reason I even bother talking to you. Secretly, we're both masochists.

On the contrary...you help me quite a bit. Not in the way you might expect, I'm sure, but nonetheless....

For the record, I too have an economics degrees, and I will, as will, turn around and call you nutty and wonder if you learned anything from any economics classes you perchance wandered into... or were you just high all the time in college?
