yeah, yeah, i got this from myspace....

Dear President Bush and all you *******s in congress:

I'm about to plan a little trip with my family and extended family, and I would like to ask you to assist me. I'm going to walk across the border from the U.S. into Mexico, and I need to make a few arrangements. I know you can help with this.

I plan to skip all the legal stuff like visas, passports, immigration quotas and laws. I'm sure they handle those things the same way you do here.

So, would you mind telling your buddy, President Vicente Fox, that I'm on my way over? Please let him know that I will be expecting the following:

    1. Free medical care for my entire family.

    2. English-speaking government bureaucrats for all services I might need, whether I use them or not.

    3. All government forms need to be printed in English.

    4. I want my kids to be taught by English-speaking teachers.

    5. Schools need to include classes on American culture and history.

    6. I want my kids to see the American flag flying on the top of the flag pole at their school with the Mexican flag flying lower down.

    7. Please plan to feed my kids at school for both breakfast and lunch.

    8. I will need a local Mexican driver's license so I can get easy access to government services.

    9. I do not plan to have any car insurance, and I won't make any effort to learn local traffic laws.

    10. In case one of the Mexican police officers does not get the memo from Pres. Fox to leave me alone, please be sure that all police officers speak English.

    11. I plan to fly the U.S. flag from my house top, put flag decals on my car, and have a gigantic celebration on July 4th. I do not want any complaints or negative comments from the locals.

    12. I would also like to have a nice job without paying any taxes, and don't enforce any labor laws or tax laws.

    13. Please tell all the people in the country to be extremely nice and never say a critical word about me, or about the strain I might place on the economy.

I know this is an easy request because you already do all these things for all the people who come to the U.S. from Mexico. I am sure that Pres. Fox won't mind returning the favor if you ask him nicely.

Thank you so much for your kind help.

    Sincerely,

    Paul Revere

That inane post you quoted in your OP is an example of blind conservatism.

          Blind liberalism?

I especially love how that ever-so-clever satire manages to completely ignore the existence of a large number of legal Hispanic residents in the US and the fact that these people might be the ones Spanish-language services are maintained for.

Oh, and the line about a "nice job" was great too.

Have fun masturbating yourself into an anglo xenophobe fury.

No, thank you for playing. If you're standing by the tripe you put up there, then defend this part of the criticism in terms of a complaint about illegal immigrants:

                2. English-speaking government bureaucrats for all services I might need, whether I use them or not.

                3. All government forms need to be printed in English.

mastery, no. experience, yes. I am having a hard time seeing why that is so hard for you to concept...I'd also like to point out, in case you missed it, that i didn't write all of that. I got if from myspace. but since you focused on those three....

Learning english is part of naturalization and legal immigration.

                    surprised you didn't know that

The couple that lives beside me are legal immigrants, but when I tried talking to them in English I didn't get very far. My high school Spanish worked a lot better. And this is in ****ing Maryland.

12 weeks of English language classes aren't going to accomplish very much. Otherwise half of the people in the US would speak fluent French.

But you're right; they shouldn't be able to read important government announcements..

Then I suggest you take more English classes.

Wow, that is easily the most offensive OP i've read in a long while.

I'm a conservative, but not an ******* or bigot. The writer of the myspace you got that from, is both. Taking the quite complex and nuanced debate over immigration - legal or not - and trying to condense it into a bigoted, stereotyped rant, is offensive and stupid, and makes me wish I weren't of the same general political affiliation with the probable writer of said piece.

                              1. Free medical care for my entire family.

We offer free medical care (to the extent that we do) because we belive people should not be denied the right to live a healthy life simply because of their income. That's an ethical stance, and has no relation to laws.

                              2. English-speaking government bureaucrats for all services I might need, whether I use them or not.

                              3. All government forms need to be printed in English.

Both irrelevant to this debate; we provide what dual language services that we do for the legal immigrants.

                              4. I want my kids to be taught by English-speaking teachers.

Umm ... you ever been to school near the border? Most of the mexican students were in english classes, except for a single class period of ESL where they were taught english. I've never heard of an all-spanish school (public school), and I lived 30 minutes away from the Mexican border for most of my life.

                              5. Schools need to include classes on American culture and history.

Absolutely. We need to understand the culture and history of our neighbors, in order to live with them better, and NOT be ignorant bigots.

                              6. I want my kids to see the American flag flying on the top of the flag pole at their school with the Mexican flag flying lower down.

                              Never heard of this happening.

                              7. Please plan to feed my kids at school for both breakfast and lunch.

                              See my response to #1.

                              8. I will need a local Mexican driver's license so I can get easy access to government services.

You don't need a DL to get services, there are other IDs for such. Regardless, i'd rather them be licensed to drive (and thus pass tests and be trained) than drive w/o DLs.

                              9. I do not plan to have any car insurance, and I won't make any effort to learn local traffic laws.

That's just bigotted stereotyping. Most Mexicans I knew drove fine, carried insurance, and paid more attention to traffic laws than most of the white hicks I knew ...

                              10. In case one of the Mexican police officers does not get the memo from Pres. Fox to leave me alone, please be sure that all police officers speak English.

There's no requirement for all police officers to speak spanish that I know of, but is it so bad for police officers to be able to interact with the community they serve? Again, this helps legal immigrants, so

                              11. I plan to fly the U.S. flag from my house top, put flag decals on my car, and have a gigantic celebration on July 4th. I do not want any complaints or negative comments from the locals.

If I were an american patriot, I'd do just that ... we have no problem with the Irish celebrating St. Patrick's day, or the germans celebrating Oktoberfest. Why do we all of a sudden object to Mexicans celebrating the Cinco de Mayo?

                              12. I would also like to have a nice job without paying any taxes, and don't enforce any labor laws or tax laws.

Nice job? Hah! Not to mention the fact that the only nontaxed mexicans I knew were illegals who couldn't get a job that ALLOWED taxes to be paid (require SSN or work permit #) ...

                              13. Please tell all the people in the country to be extremely nice and never say a critical word about me, or about the strain I might place on the economy.

How about not making stupid, ignorant, bigotted comments against others? I have no problem discussing the economic impact of immigrants (or of natives ...), but I have a problem when you make comments that are offensive and bigotted.
