        • Thanks.

(and this isn't directed at you either, just so you know. Ted Striker. )

Didn't want to risk that someone might brand me a racist tho. Kaak got the treatment for less than the post I deleted....he posted a joke....I sugessted, in all seriousness that the legal process is there for a purpose that we, in this country, think valuable, and since it is a LAW (as opposed to a suggesstion), it should be followed.

If a comedy piece can illicit brandings as harsh as the ones Kaak was treated to, then I shudder to think what my former post might have merited, so I took it away.

And that's what it boils down to for me. The real reason I guess that I showed up here when I did is that.....slinging terms around like they were earlier. Branding people a bigot, racist, or worse, when there's really no cause for it is not only unjust (and uncalled for in this thread for sure!), but in other threads where serious discussion is the goal, such behavior stifles any hope of real discussion about a very real problem, just as surely as a careful, line-by-line dissection of a humor piece (and treating it with grave seriousness, even when it's clearly not) stifles humor. Who the hell wants to share a joke under such conditions? Not me.

And who the hell wants to even ATTEMPT to discuss a genuine problem in this country if the merest attempt to do so is immediatly going to lead to lies and slanderous charges that the thread starter is a bigot or a racist?

I'll pass on that too, so yep...deleted my own post.

I guess then, that is a concession by me, to Team PC.

          They won the point.

Made me simply not want to speak any more.

I hope they are proud of their talents for destruction.

(and I did miss a name earlier....Ted shoulda also been on the list of exceptions)

          • Viewed as a whole, it is clearly a parody of the expectations of Mexican illegals. And you KNOW that. To pretend otherwise is bull****. If you do, you sir are a bull****ter.
I am a bull****ter, for I thought it was a parody of ****ty status quo of US immigration policies.

            Wedge issue, v.2006.
Yeah. What's amazing is that the democrats swallowed it. Like during the war on terror ('02 wedge) and the war on homoes ('04 wedge), the rhetoric of the GOP congressmen is filled with hot air. They're the ones who have created the problem they're currently whining about, and they're not going to do anything about it once they'll win the election.

            • I've been thinking about this, and I suppose that this argument is pretty stupid. I often like offensive jokes, but for some reason witless offensive jokes seem malicious to me. Whatever. To each his own.

              • As it turns out, Mexico isn't so nice to its illegal immigrants:

Considered felons by the government, these migrants fear detention, rape and robbery. Police and soldiers hunt them down at railroads, bus stations and fleabag hotels. Sometimes they are deported; more often officers simply take their money
And though Mexico demands humane treatment for its citizens who migrate to the U.S., regardless of their legal status, Mexico provides few protections for migrants on its own soil.

"I thought you must be dead ..." he said simply. "So did I for a while," said Ford, "and then I decided I was a lemon for a couple of weeks. A kept myself amused all that time jumping in and out of a gin and tonic."

Don't look now, but that applies to nearly everything on this forum.
