On the new line, I hope to god that they have the foresight to double-track the line so they can do express and commuter trains. That's one of the biggest mistakes that Metro made when they first built the system. That's why there aren't any express lines which would greatly ease commuter pressure on the system.
There are some bottlenecks, but I still think more flow in the other parts would help the region to some extent. I think that controlled lanes and swithcihg lanes and controlled exits are really poor investment. I had a freiend who did a Ph.D. in traffic planning and the economics for just building more blacktop tends to be better than the "creative" solutions.

I think some money should be put into driver education. Idiots on the road can create serious traffic jams where none need exist.

One of the idiocies of public transportation boosters is to say that you can't build your way out of congestion with regard to freeways. I agree that you just have to put more blacktop down. Yes, it's expensive, but you have to hold your nose and spend the money sometimes. The cute stuff like HOV lanes seems to make little difference.

For me, the case for public transport becomes good at a certain population density regardless of the congestion on your freeway system.
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

The area has been booming ever since I came here in '91. We have no reason to believe that the boom will stop. Got to build ahead of the growth.

Well, you can, but land in cities does not grow on trees. More freeway asphalt takes up a lot of surface area that you can't use for actually useful, productive, pleasant things. And, no matter how many bridges one builds over freeways, they still present a very unpleasant barrier to pedestrian traffic.

The cute crap is actually a worse use of space.

Why not just make more lines and stations? Now that the system is operating at full capacity, they can now disentangle the system.

I don't think they're going to double track it.
