Yeah, that's what I ment. The 7 I am thinking of is how many miles Houston's light rail was. This light rail cost over 3 billion.

But this is a good thing. I hate Dulles because it is the hardest airport to get to (and the suckiest, I think). But if it had Metro to it, it would be as good as BWI, likely.

The eventual cost of Houston light rail is 73 miles for more than $292 billion.

How is DC building it more cheaply again? Especially with property costs far higher?

Are you on crack? Where are you coming up with these numbers?
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

I love mass transit. I think it's a great economical solution to overcrowded roads. I'm glad they're doing this. The surrounding area needs a quick and easy way to get to the city. I've seen the highways, they can get extremely bad.

The Washington area is said to have the 2nd worst congestion problem in the US. I wouldn't doubt it. Even on the weekends, the freeways are packed.

On the other hand, only a little over 10% of people in the area use metrorail regularly. This fact argues for a bigger/more convenient subway system.

Yeah, a lot of people where I am at drive, because the buses take forever and it sucks having to switch buses (which you have to do often if you are going to go even a couple of miles).

So to go to Bethesda or something we drive, while to go to downtown DC we metro...

If a metro went to Bethesda we would probably Metro a bit more...

I would have expected the suburbs to push for a ring connecting the suburbs. I guess the politics is difficult to line up.

I've been toying with the idea of a ring inside the city in lieu of action on a suburban ring.

There were plans to extend the trolley (light rail) lines in San Diego up the I15 corridor but those all fell through when it was discovered the Republican mayor and the Republican city council has cooked the city's books in order to hide $2 billion in pension liabilities.
