Its because Torre can't figure out that having Jeter hit leadoff isn't a bad thing.

Then again, as someone who hasn't bought into the whole "Jeter's better when he hits 2nd" thing... look at Jeter this year. Wow.
And hey, it's a small sample size to be sure, but Melky's getting on base at better than a .400 clip. So while I was surprised by the move, it wasn't exactly equivalent to, say, batting Tony Womack second.

Jeter has hit second before, but, if he keeps it up through the end of the season, right now he is exceeding both his career averages for OBP and SLG. I don't think it'll last as the season goes on.
[q=LoA]matt clement blows chunks. worst singing by theo that he hasnt gotten rid of yet.[/q]
And he actually was pretty good in Chicago (but not so much in Florida or San Diego), which makes it wierd. Wonder if he just liked pitching at Wrigley.

Matt Clement is a headcase. You could actually see him melting on the mound.
As for Jeter, Imran, yeah it is highly unlikely he can sustain his current hitting rates. But he could still end up having one of his best seasons even with some regression. 1999 was his peak, and thus far it's lookin' a lot like 1999. There is a theory that says that when Derek is leading off he is so concious of trying to get on base that he gets tentative, which isn't really his strength. I'm not saying it's true, I'm just saying it's possible.
Bonds with 715. He's now solely in 2nd on the all time HR list.

I wonder whether the Commissioner is going to "asterik" Bonds home run record like he should.
Aside from the fact he shouldn't?

What for? Because the hoi polloi is getting their panty's in a bunch? I don't think any player should ever get their records striken or asterisked for any reason. If it is done on the field, it should stay in the record books. We don't take away the prior at bats of a player who was caught using a corked bat, and why not? Because what is done on the field is done.

I'm with IMRAN, if they were so worried about it, why didn't they make it against the rules 10 years ago. It wasn't against the rules, so he wasn't cheating, unlike those that corked or spit. I still think he's slime, but I think that of a lot of ball players.
It's almost as if all his overconfident, absolutist assertions were spoonfed to him by a trusted website or subreddit. Sheeple
RIP Tony Bogey & Baron O
The only thing MLB can do about steroids/etc is to try and enforce its now-sensible policy from here on out. Trying to "fix" the past is folly.
Hey, I felt absolutely nothing when Bonds hit #715 (actually, I didn't know until the next day, but I figured he'd do it - B. Kim is a flyball pitcher who lefties mash, at Coors... it's not rocket science). I just generally ignore him.
No matter what he does, his name will always be associated with BALCO and whatnot (ditto Giambi, of course). That's the justice of it, if it's justice you seek.

Technically, I believe it was against the rules (as well as against the law), but the rules were not exactly highlighted by MLB. MLB was certainly imitating an ostrich during the 90s/early 2000s.
