    I oppose criminalising parking violations. I must be an idiot because Kaak says so.

      C'mon, Kaak. Be a man. Just use the smiley and move on.

        The funny thing is how much stupider he's making himself look.

          Again, y'all all have a point about the legal grammar, but it's still a brilliant soundbite, which was probably more Kaak's point anyway

            But, see, the funny phrasing is a Newsday headline, not a Clinton quote.

            So HC still isn't the one who looks like an moron in the OP.

            Unlike Kaak.

              True, but it's still amusing to Hillary haters such as myself

                Newsday isn't exactly known for shying away from a soundbite when it isn't true.
                “I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”

                  Rufus:
                  And there's your answer. "Criminalize" means "to make a felony" not "to make a crime." decriminalization of marijuana possession, for example, reduces possession to a misdemeanor offense; it doesn't legalize it.

                  Next time, Google "online dictionary."

                  I did what you told me to and i'm the moron? I would like to point out that you can go to jail for misdemeanors.

                  And KH, how, exactly, does that make me look stupid? He was wrong, I pointed it out, and provided the definitions he suggested i find. *yawn* quit being an ass

                  "I thought you must be dead ..." he said simply. "So did I for a while," said Ford, "and then I decided I was a lemon for a couple of weeks. A kept myself amused all that time jumping in and out of a gin and tonic."

                    AAAAND, the idea seems silly. How could it not be criminal? So if it's not criminal, how exactly does it work? We write Juan Salazar a ticket for being an illegal that he will never have to pay because we can't track him because he doesn't have real documents? The next time, what happens? "no era yo senior policia, era otro Juan Salazar" Why not just get rid of the border patrol, set up a queue and write people tickets as the cross the border. Seems like it would save tax dollars....

                        Imram, he said "Criminalize means to make a felony." This statement is incorrect. I think that means he was wrong.

                          What do you think 'decriminalize' means, Kaah? And if you say it is the same as 'legalise', why use a wordier term?

                            Imram, you are an idiot.

                            Just read the heading.

                            Criminial Possession of Marijuana: Class B misdemeanor. That means that it is not a felony and it is criminal. That means he was wrong. Next time i'll draw you a freakin picture.

                              They are all grouped under heading of 'Criminal offenses' or 'Criminal law' (for ease of use), but not all violations of a law are 'crimes' [think of people using the term 'assault' for the act of getting hit]

                              But not all breaches of the law are considered crimes, e.g. breaches of contract. The label of "crime" and the accompanying social stigma are usually reserved for those activities causing more serious loss and damage to the citizens of the state

                              Btw, you never answered my question, so I'll do the work myself:

                              Decriminalization is the reduction or abolition of criminal penalties in relation to certain acts. The reverse process is criminalization.

                              Decriminalization reflects changing social and moral views. A society may come to the view that an act is not harmful, should no longer be criminalized, or is otherwise not a matter to be addressed by the criminal justice system. Examples of subject matter which have been the subject of changing views on criminality over time in various societies and countries include:

                              * homosexuality
                              * prostitution
                              * the possession or use of marijuana

                              While decriminalized acts are no longer crimes, they may still be the subject of regulation; for example, the licensing and regular medical testing of prostitutes, or a monetary penalty in place of a criminal charge for the possession of a soft drug. This should be contrasted with legalization, which removes all or most legal detriments from an offence.
                              “I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”
                              - John 13:34-35 (NRSV)

                                I wasn't arguing against that. Did you even read what I posted? All I said was that Rufus' statement WAS WRONG. Yes, I understand the difference.
