"Clinton vows to block bill criminalizing illegal immigrants"

i like how the words "criminalizing" and "illegal" are right next to each other. If you can't criminalize things that are illegal, then what the hell is going on with this country???

Hillary Clinton is officially a moron...

    So what else is new.

Clinton renewed her pledge to oppose a bill passed in December by the House that would make unlawful presence in the United States _ currently a civil offense _ a felony.
And there's your answer. "Criminalize" means "to make a felony" not "to make a crime." decriminalization of marijuana possession, for example, reduces possession to a misdemeanor offense; it doesn't legalize it.

        Next time, Google "online dictionary."

"Criminal" and "illegal" are two separate things.

For example, it is illegal to copy software and give it to somebody else, but that is not a criminal offence.

Another example. Littering (in public) is illegal here, you get slapped with a $1500 fine. However it is not a criminal offence.

Yet another example. Speeding is illegal, you get demerit points and are fined. But it is not a criminal offence, either.

          Edit: what Rufus said.

That's because she believes in family values.

And now she's a senaotor with a plausible shot at the presidency, instead of just a humialted ex-first-lady.

Machiavellian, sure. But a moron? No way.

Now maybe if she didn't know the meaning of criminalize, or posted articles without actually reading them, you might be on to something...

I can't understand why anyone thinks Hillary has a shot in hell at the Presidency. Even if she were nominated, the Republicans would just nominate a center-right candidate, fairly moderate, and if they were smart, pro-choice. There aren't a lot of people that could actually lose to a far-leftwing woman in national US politics - that's just the way it goes, and the Republicans would make sure Hillary got crushed. If things were really looking bad, the Republicans would just nominate a minority/woman, or both, such as Condoleeza Rice. That might swing the black vote into contention, at least a bit more than normal, not to mention splitting the women's vote.

First, let's be clear about a couple of things:

                            1) The GOP will never, ever nominate a pro-choice candidate in 2008

                            2) There aren't any centrists in the GOP with a shot at the nomination

That said, I use to think she probably didn't have that much of a shot -- but Bush has fubarred things so badly that Hilary could possibly, just barely, win on the "I'm not in the party the f*cked it all up" platform, in the style of Jimmy Carter.

Or think of it this way. All she has to do is win the states John Kerry won, or all the states Gore won, plus Ohio. And right now, the GOP is in a world of trouble in Ohio. If she wins those states 51-49%, it doesn't matter if she loses Mississippi and Wyoming 99%-1%.

I know. I qualified it "if they were smart...". A pro-choice Republican would beat the crap out of any Democratic nominee.

                              2) There aren't any centrists in the GOP with a shot at the nomination
                              Another good point.

The problem with Hillary, though, is that the centrist voters would stay far, far away from her, unless the Republicans nominated someone equally as extreme. John Kerry at least made it seem he was somewhat centrist, but I can't see an ultra-left wingers winning Ohio, or even Pennsylvania, and certainly not Florida. It was close in those states with relatively moderate Democrats (Gore and Kerry, as compared to Hillary) - the Democrats were competitive because of the "undecided" voters, not their base.
