Texas starts arresting bar patrons for being... erm... drunk.

I think you are getting upset at the wrong people here. The cops are just doing their job, doing what they are told to do. If I were in a situation where my Sgt told me we were doing this sting operation, and I told him I didn't want to do it, he'd tell me to piss off and do it anyway (and its probably not even the Sgt that wants to do it... it this damn Commish who put out the order)
That being said... this is what we have to look forward to thanks to all those people who support smoking bans. Thanks alot morons...
problem I see with this is that Public intox is one of those offenses that isn't punished across the board. It's pretty much up to the officer on the scene. If he hates you or you have annoyed him, you can pretty much bet your ass is going to jail. I'm not thrilled about laws that leave it up to the cop on the scene to make a judgement call on. There was an incident Branson MO where me and my wife were eating at a steak place were a bunch of college kids were drunk and loud and eventually ended up pushing the female manager against a table. Food flew everywhere and me and another dude were trying to keep the guy from going at her again. What happened to him? the cops told his girlfriend to take him back to the hotel. The guy assualted someone and all he got was a ticket back to the room.

No, the person to make the decision to go after drunks was probably a cop. The one they call "colonel" or "major".
Obviously individual officers don't have too much choice in the matter, but I would certainly think that some of them would do everything possible to sabotage this without getting caught.

stupidity knows no boundaries
A lot of Republicans are not racist, but a lot of racists are Republican.
not so much stupidity, but they want to be nice to tourists who are the lifeblood of the city. The cop even apologized to me for blocking my truck in with his car. Point is, anywhere else the guy would have been hauled into jail. Just last week in Little Rock the police approached two men who were pissing on the sidewalk on the River Marker near the
Clinton Library. They merely told them to go home. Afterwards they were seen again and were asked to leave again. Only after one got agressive with the cops were they hauled into jail. One turned out to be an off duty secret service agent. Police say they didn't know that until after he was arrested.
Meanwhile in Jonesboro a few months ago, the local police were sending in undercover officers to bust people who dared to bring alochol to restuarents to drink with their food. Jonesboro is in a dry county but the reatuarent had encouraged customers to bring their own wine if they so chose. Apparently the evil wine drinkers were more of a danger than the meth heads in other parts of town.

i have to ask is a bar consider the real public??
and is it not the bar folks that would need to call the cop before they cops can bust in the door to arrest someone? What happened to private property? I am not sure what else a bar is for other then to drink, and under these new rules a person that wieghs a buck 10 and has two beers in an hour is considered intoxicated. Dam good thing i stay home and drink

silly Texans. they always act like their state is so great. And then they all move to Las Vegas proudly displaying their Texas bumper stickers. If it's so great, why are they living here?
It's expected that we get **** faced drunk at our bars. Though technically it's still illegal as well.

What better job than to be paid watching sports in a bar while some young waitresses in mini skirts feed you on the city's dime? If you get bored you can always arrest someone.
public intoxication is the right of every Finn. If we weren't allowed to do that, we could never multiply.

How is drinking in an estabishment that is provided by law illegal?? Hence the license to sell and consume alocholic beverages on this premises.

drinking is okay, but public intoxication is not. I guess the reasoning is eventually you have to leave the bar. . Although that's not the case where I live, as the bars are open 24 hours. You could live there if you wanted. tempting idea...
I dont get what your saying. Is it good you weigh a buck ten? or that u get drunk after two and how is that a good thing ? That would be more of a drag to the folks you are with that take a few more then 2 i would think
