    IOW, the mean reason you would buy a Mac is masochism.
    Why can't you be a non-conformist just like everybody else?

      The quality of Powerbooks is superb. I have one. Nothing ever seems to go wrong with it.
      I care a lot about the quality of the laptops I buy (I have only bought one so far). While a Mac is interesting for the OS, I would only get it as a laptop as it can do the things I want a laptop to do (which is mostly media, text, and internet). Having a Linux/XP thinkpad would also serve my purposes just fine.

        Were you around in 1999-2000? Market values don't mean much.

        Apple's stock is overvalued. Their P/E is 54, compared to Dell's 24.

          Ever taken a statistics course? Sample size of 1 is not very accurate.

          My best friend's 15" AlBook got RMAed twice now. Both witin the first year of ownership, so it was under warranty, but still...

          41% of Apple laptops need repair over their lifetime. I don't call that "superb".

          The 3 worst Apple laptops (most repaired):
          * iBook G3 (esp. in 2003, motherboard defects)
          * 15" titanium PowerBook G4 (esp. in 2003, optical drive, case/latch/hinge)
          * 15" aluminum PowerBook G4

              my laptop actually did ok, considering the abuse I gave it

              it was a Quantex (not in business, looked like a dell)

              I sent it to get repaired once (I tihnk?).. that was after I got up real fast (was looking at porn and people came home) and pulled it off the stand it was sitting on (foot caught in cord). The hinge partially broke off and the screen and computer base were mostly disconnected. They did lose it for a bit, but sent it back repaired (and said that it was covered by the warrante). I may have sent it in again (at the end of the warrante) citing the part of the case wasn't as connected as it should be.

              Later the seam on the monitor came a little lose (the hole between the two halves at the top would gape open a bit (it was well connected on both sides..)). My dad put in some plastic glue and it holds well now. (by gape I mean 1 cm or something when it was suppose to be 1 mm or something). Then my senior year of college (2002) I spilled coffee on it. I freaked out and set it to air out for a while before turning it back on. Since then the keys have been brittle, and some of them have broken (The first to break was the n key). While it still works.. and probably as good as ever, I rarely use it because it is annoying to type on.

                  MSI's not the only one (MSI being a Taiwanese OEM, though they do sell under their own brand, too.):

                  Samsung has one, too

                            Wrong. Plus this is a very narrowminded opinion, IMO. First and foremost Nintendo is #1 in terms of handheld game consoles. The PlayStation Portable is still a newcomer and there's not much of anyone else threatening Nintendo. The Gameboy line is and will remain cheap, where as the new contender by Sony is overhyped. I can't see a real need in the larger audience for that kind of gaming devices. Far too complex for what it's meant for. That being killing off some sparetime while sitting on a train or so. For that, Nintendo has offered better consoles, IMO.

                            Other than that, indeed they've lost ground especially to the Xbox and Xbox 360. Unlike how Sega is gone from the console manufacturing business, I wouldn't expect this to happen with Nintendo. They might be late with the newest wave of consoles, but they have something (Nintendo Revolution) coming up that can hopefully grab some market share. Also you need to remember Nintendo has cash to spend and they have the experience. I don't expect anything magic to happen, but not at least them phasing out from the console business.

                              That's a question you should ask yourself.
