Antisemitic and anti-Israeli graffiti were scrawled on the walls of the main Sephardic synagogue in Caracas during pro-government demonstrations this year and last. Groups connected to Chavez signed several of the slogans, according to pictures seen by the Forward.

        Entirely, and being led there.

Local Jewish leaders now describe a rash of harshly anti-Israel and sometimes antisemitic articles published by far-left media outlets since the vote.

This is really stupid. I mean my people, the Anglos, have been pushing his people around, cheating them, humiliating them and oppressing them in general for centuries, and he goes out and gives the credit to the Jews? Jeez, it looks to be just about the right time to send in some crack squads of CIA.

You of all people are going to analyze what the poor inVenezuela think? Do you know a lick of Spanish? Unlike HYOU, the people of Venezuela, those who cared anyway, heard the whole speech, in its intended language. Your opinion of what the poor in Venezuale think is beyond irrelevant, its absurdly worthless.

Who is a minority thought of as being rich - the Romans, or the Jews?

Look above. Oh, and the persecution complex is no longer cute. Its actually rather obnoxious.

Unless you can explain the connection made between Jews, Freemasons, britons and international bankers, any claim that the 19th century populists were antisemites is talking out of your ass. Obviously Hofstader in "The Paranoid Style in American Politics" was as much an idiot as those at the Wiesenthal center, right?

Any of that have **** to do with Bolivar? Oh, wait NO. no surprise.

Populists dont necessarily make logical connections in their rhetoric - they make EMOTIONAL connections - they draw an emotional equivalance between 1st century Palestinian Jews (his death be on us and on our children) 19th century Spaniards and rich, and 20th century wealthy Venezualans, the IMF, and the American leadership (that the current US admin has several prominent Jews and is a notorious supporter of Israel is only bonus for this rhetorical strategy)

This is pathetic. It trully is.

You want to hear an anti-semitic remark there, fine, go ahead. You are right LoTM, everyone hates you, everyone wants you dead, anti-semitism is everywhere...blah blah blah.

It sort of gets rather boring at some point, like, already.

As Agathon says, this is a ridiculous "discussion"

              1. Chavez cozying up to Iran? Like the Iranians need Cahvez to say **** to try to be close to him, another OPEC voting member...

              2. Anti-semitism is rampant in Latin America, always has been. But leaders don;t "capitalize" on it anymore than they seek to capitalize on the rampant racism in Latim America. The conflict that matters is CLASS. Not race, not religion, CLASS. Chavez is a populist leader. His statement is obviously (well, to anyone not with their head deep up their ass stuck with some persecution complex) one against the rich, the upper classes, the people he supposedly is fighting in the name of the Venezuelan downtrodden.

Its speaks sad and pathetic volumes that the Wiesenthal Center lowers themselves and thier crediblity by making this inane statement, probably as a reaction to Chavez's greater connections to the Iranian reigme. Maybe in their little minds, connection to Iran must mean some anti-semitic tendencies, like the Jews were really that important in the grand scheme of things, like one must be anti-semitic simply to try to be friendly to the oil rich regime of one of the worlds 25 largest countries in terms of pop., territory, and economy.

                  Whatever.

You never once even attempted to address the simple, obvious textual points. Its not like you could, it would force you to drop your little "point", but that does not make it any less pathetic.

And as for the endless need to see anti-semitism everywhere, it is boring. Its is also annoying, just as bad as Godwinization, and in the end utterly counter-productive.

but if people want to be offended all the time, and seek to find things to offend thrmselves, fine, let them. Its they that will live in fear and loathing, not me.

                    Fear and loathing?

Support for this is perfectly acceptable?

RAFSANJANI SAYS MUSLIMS SHOULD USE NUCLEAR WEAPON AGAINST ISRAEL

TEHRAN 14 Dec. (IPS) One of Iran’s most influential ruling cleric called Friday on the Muslim states to use nuclear weapon against Israel, assuring them that while such an attack would annihilate Israel, it would cost them "damages only".

"If a day comes when the world of Islam is duly equipped with the arms Israel has in possession, the strategy of colonialism would face a stalemate because application of an atomic bomb would not leave any thing in Israel but the same thing would just produce damages in the Muslim world", Ayatollah Ali Akbar Hashemi-Rafsanjani told the crowd at the traditional Friday prayers in Tehran.

                    • I don't see how his quote = Muslims should use nukes. He's articulating a deterance strategy.
“I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”

                      • God, that is trully moronic!

So here we are talking about this stupid claim of anti-semitism against Chavez, and all you can do is pull a quote out of your ass that has absolutely NOTHING to do with him. Well, that more than anything else shows the utter weakness of your "arguement", if you ever had one.

Oh, and your continued lack of reading comprehnsion continues to be a sad joke. I will not waste my time explaining things to you that re obviously beyond your current ability to comprehend. Fell free to continue making a fool of yourself though.

Chavez, a vocal critic of Washington, has recently been fostering ties with Iran as he builds political and trade alliances as an alternative to U.S. influence.

                            and 'Christ killers'...

He is seeking to forge ties with, and support, the government of a country that has said it will use nuclear weapons to wipe out Israel.

You think it's a good thing to encourage the government of Iran in a course of action that will lay nuclear waste to large parts of the ME?

this getting closer with the other big oil exporting countries policy started since day 1 of chavez president, saying vaguely anti semitic stuff may be the way of getting closer to iran nowadays because the peculiarities of the new iranian president.
