Before I found out about all the cockups that led up to it I supported the police action at the Stockwell incident. Turns out it could/should have never got to that stage.
Agreed - we don't know enough to pass complete judgement at this point. But so far, given the claims made in the news stories released up to this point, it doesn't seem like there was any misbehavior on the part of the marshals - though a later investigation may reveal otherwise.

    • Except now passengers are openly confirming that they never heard this guy say he had a bomb.

      • I'm thinking that he attracted suspicion based on his behavior during the flight, the air marshal was going to ask him a few questions, he started running for some reason (manic episode, whatever), when they finally caught up with him he strapped the bag over his chest, ignored several commands, and reached into the bag and started walking toward the air marshals.

I'm still curious why he was off his mads in the first place.

Did anyone other than the marshalls witness this last part?
Is it me, or is MOBIUS a horrible person?

Like I said, we'll have to wait and see. The Passengers are not one being - it could be that some heard it and some didn't. It could also be that the marshals just thought he said it. We'll see.

            • This had the smell of The Tube episode all over it since the moment I heard about it...

              • The same approach as with Saddam: approach him gently, say "we won't use force on you", and see what he has to "offer".

The (current) choosen patch did proof to be a lot better indeed.

Not up on the latest bipolar meds, but some (like Lithium) have some unpleasant side effects, and one of their main BENEFITS is to avoid mania, which in its milder manifestations feels pretty good, apparently. BPs are much more likely to go off their meds, IIUC, than unipolar depressives on SSRI's. Its not that hard to understand.

                    • Doesn't homeland security have things wrapped up so tight in American airports, so a person just simply can't walk onto a plane carrying a bag with a bomb in it?

The marshalls certainly didn't think so...

Maybe they'd run out of meds (great freudian slip, Dino), whatever.

                          • It doesn't seem like an effective enforcement measure to assume that people don't have bombs because they should have all been caught by somebody else. The presence of the marshals on flights indicates that nobody seriously expects pre-flight screening to catch 100% of everything.

                            • This story smells bad. It sounds like the guards are trying to get off the hook using the terrorist claim instead of explaining why they killed a person that wouldn't stop/follow orders.

Don't like it - it hurts, but I agree with MOBIUS
With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.

Didn't the France have things wrapped up so tight in French airports, so a person just simply can't walk onto a plane carrying a bag with a bomb in it before Richard Reid went and did it?
