Saw the movie last night. Nothing spectacular, but a fun romp. No surprise, they spent a long time on the battle. From reading the news, I expected a little more christian stuff, and it really wasn't there, minimal at best.
When I lived in Turkey, a movie came out that attempted to do this; it was an animated film of the life of the prohet Mohommed, designed to inspire children. The problem was, Islam prohibits depictions of Mohammed. So they had to make a whole movie -- and I swear I'm not making this up -- about a guy whose name was something like Mohammar, who did everything in his life that Mohammed did, but who was not himself Mohammed. Viewers -- children, remember -- were asked to see it as a metaphor.
You can see what Disney would be up against...
This is a company that put a replica of a French castle 25 miles from downtown Paris. They'll attempt anything, no matter how offensive.
I also remember a movie made in the 1970's that inspired riots in Tehran. It, too, was about Mohammed and the director showed M only in from behind, so that the viewer never got a glimpse of M's face.

As a Disney shareholder, I am incensed that they aren't doing their bit to commercialize Islam.
Indeed- they should be maximizing their prophets.
I'm waiting for the Disney Zoroaster film tie-ins, with fire temples having Pizza Hut as sponsors.
I mentioned on Counterglow that Disney are thinking of giving Winnie the Pooh a 'girlfriend'- presumably in case any goodly Christianistas out there are exasperated at the thought of a cartoon bear having an unseemly relationship with a cartoon boy which might result in a cross-species cartoon civil ceremony/gay wedding...
The Walt Disney Company has decided to pair Pooh up with a red-haired six-year-old tomboy for its 2007 series, newspaper USA Today reported

"We got raised eyebrows even in-house at first, but the feeling was these timeless characters really needed a breath of fresh air that only the introduction of someone new could provide," Nancy Kanter of the Disney Channel told USA Today.
'Timeless characters' that 'need refreshing'.

Actually, the only overt christian stuff in the first book was the substitutionary death and resurrection of Aslan, which was handled very well and it stuck pretty closely to the book. I don't care what anyone says, take that part out of the movie and you really bastardize the book.
It certainly was not preachy (as I suspect some viewers were fearful of happening). Even taking it on a totally non-christian level, the act of sacrificial love is a good message.
I loved it...but I always liked the series. In fact I just reread it last summer.
Aint it cool had a good way to watch the movie - view it through your inner child. (Sounds dorky if you do not have one )

What? In the book Aslan has a line where he says to Susan "In your world you know me by another name". That's pretty overt.
"Wait a minute..this isn''t FAUX dive, it's just a DIVE!"
"...Mangy dog staggering about, looking vainly for a place to die."

One line of text does not make overt...and I don't recall that line showing up in the movie either. If it did, it blew right past me.
And actually I consider 'The Magician's Nephew' and 'The Last Battle' to be more overtly Christian in theme...
If the author intends that as part of his overall message (and it is safe to say that Lewis incorporated his faith into the books), I think most people can readily accept or reject it without destroying their enjoyment of the story.
As a Christian, I love the HP series - yet I have friends who will not touch it. It's a shame, because there really is a good message and theme in those books. There are many themes inherent in faith that are universal in nature.

Narnia was a great series. I read the books and they certainly didn't turn me into a Christian. Then again, I don't think I got the symbolism when I first read them at the tender age of 7.

I saw this movie. I thought it was dumb and not worth my time. The special effects were good but the story seemed cut horribly. People act as if they've known each other for decades when it's been all of two minutes in this movie. Santa Claus passing out weapons was kind of funny, but it hardly makes for a good film.
I also managed to meet a completely different type of nerd at this movie... the religious kind. Several college age people literally cried when the lion died in this movie. WTF!
One thing I did learn though is that if a family of 4 kids finds a new world through a wardrobe it will eventually result in incest. They're the only 4 humans in that whole place... how exactly did they grow up like that. They're all 10 years older just before the end. Then again, maybe it doesn't end in incest but rather explains where centaurs come from. Either way, the movie was lame enough that this was all I gained from it.

I don't understand why people have problems with a christian message in a movie or a book?
non-christian / atheists messages are all over the place. Our world is filled with sublinear messages about sex, commercials, drugs, political ideas, evolution, etc. But when there are some christian messages, people are all angry about it.
atheists......... *sigh*
