Oh and experts say that it takes 9 months for the intense cravings to stop. Maybe you are superman or something.
Hmm... thats the weird part, I didn't have any intense cravings. I didn't have cravings at all... But I'm a smoker and that is a tough habit to break, the toughest I've ever dealt with. So I know its not some "immunity" to meth addiction. And yet I had a friend who smoked maybe 1 cig a day and never got addicted. Guess its just an individual thing...

But glad to hear your kid misses her, sounds like she wasn't too bad on him and he's weathering the storm pretty well. Given how many of us were raised by "functioning" alcoholics, these storms are quite common. The dysfunctional family may be the norm

Berz is correct, peoples' reactions to drugs vary a bunch - one of the reasons Heroin was initially used, supposedly, is that it was voluntarily tested on the lab staff who were all pretty much happy, well paid individuals. They determined is was less addictive than morphine, and a good substitute. Go figure.

Kid - one other thing. When he wants to - and you are right, do not push you issues on him, you need to listen (not just with your ears) to him and see what his problems are. This will sound weird, for example, but it wasn't my abuse by my dad that gave me issues - it was what he did to my mother, and especially my brother.

If he wants to (you might even see if you can help him do it) let him make up holiday and greeting cards to his mom (check with the post office if you don't have a fowarding address). Try to send them on to her - maybe it will someday be that little extra that gives her that little bit of extra will power to really quit. God bless, and Merry Christmas.

Yeah. That is weird. I don't think you were addicted to it then. In fact, I wonder why you even did it, since you didn't crave it.

Meth releases natural chemicals in your body which give you the rush. Addicts still get high after they quit using meth because memories can trigger those chemicals. That means that they crash also when those chemicals wear off. If I were anyone else, I wouldn't **** with meth. It's a ***** to quit.

            Mr. Harley,

Thanks for the advice. I don't even have an address or anything. It might help if he wrote a letter anyway though, even if we can't send it.

I asked him if he wanted to write a letter to her and have Santa deliver it. He said no. I think he's doing pretty well. Some kids can adapt, and other kids have trouble. I think he's an adapter.

When he's ready, he will (write the letter/card). And until he is, you handled it perfectly.

Kid, I can't wish you enough good luck with this. But here's a caution: make sure you're not confusing adapting with shutting down or disassociating. My wife went through a messy divorce from her her a$$hole husband when her daughter, H, (now my adopted daughter) was 2-3. H's way of coping with the mess was to tune it all out. She grew up into a smart, confident, strong young woman, but is paralytically afraid of conflict and of anyone ever losing their temper. That's not the worst thing, and she may get past it some day; but I sure wished we'd recognized what was happening earlier, instead of just marveling at how well-adjusted she seemed. Just something to think about.

Congratulations! We're going through something similar right now with our grandaughter. Trying to get custody from her mom cause there are drugs involved. Don't understand why people don't see that drugs do nothing but hurt others, especially little children.

Treasure your time with your son right now, they do grow up so fast.

I don't either. I don't understand why my ex did that to herself and to her kid. Now she's totally screwed up on drugs so I can understand, but I don't know why she let it happen. She seemed to love our son as much as any other mother loves their children. People have problems making good decisions sometimes.

Good luck to you and your grandaughter. I know it's hard to deal with. The thing that helped me was to remember that things often turn out well and worrying about them turning out horribly doesn't help. Of course you have to do everything you can do, but it has to be enough. Get out and have fun to. Live your life.

Didn't see this before (it was right before I went to Pakistan)
