Gibsie -- that is a chilling, yet informative post you provided.

      Oh, and read Steven Levitt!

Roe vs. Wade responsible for substantial crime drop in 1990s!

Legalized abortion may have been, but Roe v Wade was not, as abortion would've been legalized anyway.

Abortion is a necissary evil, it is less worse than having that child live with deformities, mental retardation, or a bad family amd end up in some gang, or abused by a father who didn't want the kid, or stuck with a teen mom who couldn't go to college and afford and take care of the kid at the same time.

The "pro-lifers" are the evil people because they wish to burden society with unwanted kids because thier stupid religious BS.

I've asked this before of anti-abortion-rights folks here, but I'll ask it again: if abortion is outlawed, what's the plan?

By the estimate of anti-abortion-rights groups, there are 1 million abortions performed annually. It's safe to assume that they are nearly all performed on people who either were too stupid to think about the consequences of having unprotected sex, were unlucky enough to have their birth control fail, or were coerced. So it's safe to assume that all those pregnancies would have happened even if abortion had been illegal.

So instead of 1 million abortions, that's 1 million kids. 1 million unwanted kids. An entire US State -- Rhode Island, say, or Montana -- of unwanted kids. Every year.

Sure, some will still be aborted anyway; people who can afford to will travel to Europe or the Caribbean for the process, just like they did in the 1960's. And sure, you could put the rest up for adoption; the few remaining white ones will go, as long as they don't have any medical defects. But the rest?

So maybe not a million; maybe 500-750 thousand. Maybe not Montana. Maybe only Vermont or, if we're really lucky, Wyoming. A Wyoming of unwanted children. Unwanted poor children (the ones from moneyed families got aborted in Europe, remember?). Every year. Year after year.

Ok. What's the plan? I'm genuinely curious.

There are six billion acres of land in the state of Texas.
Why don`t we move the entire human population to this state and give everyone one acre.

We can then utilize the rest of the world for food.

Quick question; was anyone here an unwanted child and would it have been OK to have been aborted because you had a 'rough' childhood?

But seriously, what's the plan? Besides tax cuts for entrepreneurial private juvinile prison companies, I mean.

Not a solution. Just a phenomenon.

I should point out I stole my post from some abortion site. It had abortion in the title in case anyone is really interested! Plus I missed the last quarter of the article cos I'm too cool for school.

Actually no. Those numbers come from two groups, the CDC which is the Centre for Disease Control, and the AGI, which is the Alan Guttmacher Institute. Hardly 'anti abortion' groups, if anything they are quite the opposite.

It's safe to assume that they are nearly all performed on people who either were too stupid to think about the consequences of having unprotected sex, were unlucky enough to have their birth control fail, or were coerced. Is that necessarily so? Do you believe that no one uses abortion as a method of birth control?

I ask the other question. Can the US afford to abort 1 million kids who would otherwise support their parents and the state throughout their working lives? I don't see how any society can afford to kill 1 million people every year, and still expect to thrive.

What is the plan? Have folks take care of the kids they have, since we all know that most folks aren't having 2 kids and don't have kids to support. It's a hard argument to say that the minimal number of kids being born today is too great a burden for society to support.

Had prenatal testing for hearing abnormalities been available? Most certainly I wouldn't be here. The second question is the more interesting one. Would I prefer to never have been born, even if that meant enduring suffering? Suffering is a part of life. I can't see how one can enjoy any of the joys without the suffering.

I expect those idiots are about as significant in number as those who have abortions due to rape/ incest. As my engineering studies have taught me recently, if you can simplify something by ignoring a small value, do so :P

Indeed, the world will be so much better if we kill all the kids with deformities of one sort or another. The other outlook says that people have dignity and value regardless of their exterior.
