    • And don't let someone define your fun for you.

      Do what makes you happy.
Normally, I feel pretty cheery. I don't feel unhappy. However, there is nothing in the world that makes me any happier than normal. I don't have any interests or any hobbies. I go to school, I go home and do homework, and I space off. That is pretty much all I do. But normally I don't feel unhappy or depressed. Most of the time I'm in a good mood, and I smile a lot. I function well. So I don't think it is depression, I think it is just that I am really boring.

Very true. Do what you enjoy, not what other folks say you should. Life's too short to do fun things that you don't enjoy.

            • I just can't help but think there is something seriously wrong with the male sex drive. When you hear stories about sex slaves, you just lose all faith in humanity. It's times like these you have no problem seeing the demise of humans.

I was just about asleep last night when headline news told the story of a 15 year old girl in Phoenix kept in a dog kennel and gang raped. I couldn't sleep after hearing that story. I was so disturbed. I won't even go into the sex slave problem in Eastern Europe. Disgusting. I hate men.

              • I agree. I didn't do a good job with what I wrote, but there is seriously something wrong with our sexuality, and I think that is why we should be on meds that will eliminate the drive and all of the problems like rape, molestation, etc.

                • But sexuality is also a powerful force of good, love, and communication in our world. It's part of what makes us human. Humans aren't perfect.

                  • John, you seem to have some unfortunate ideas about what is "normal." Too... idealized. I think Agathon (who I rarely agree with) is pretty much on target.

One of the best conversations I ever had, when I was a kid (I honestly cannot remember how old), was between me and my best friend. It started off because another friend of ours had been making fun of me and during it he "accused" me of jerking off (not that he had any way of knowing if I did or not). So, anyway, I basically said to my best friend "Frankly, I think HE'S the wierd one, if he's not jerking off!" This resulted in gales of laughter and I've never really worried about it since.

A majority of people have active sex drives yet don't rape or molest people.

                      • John,

Im dubious of the idea of repressing the libido. Ultraorthodox Jews, who strong disaprove of any sexuality outside marriage, tend to encourage early, arranged or semi-arranged marriages. I dont think theyre foolish - theyre accepting that such a basic force of human nature cant be repressed, but it can be guided.

do you believe in or follow christianity, Islam, or Judaism? if you do, you will find clergy who dont share the prevailing cultural attititudes toward sexuality, which clearly you dont share, but who may be able to help you find a better way to relate to the Divine gift of sexuality - and with other issues you have as well.

                        • "Now that we have established that there is no good to come from a libido, why it is a negative aspect of human nature must be discussed. The libido is an entirely selfish desire. There is no love in lust. The two are entirely separate things, which is why eliminating lust will not harm love. "

The creator made us so that we beget new human life, through precisely an expression of libido - what could more surely tell us that love and libido are, in their essence, deeply and truely linked?

John, rapes are not about sex, they are mostly about power. Rapes are not committed by humans with a normal healthy sex drive but by those who are most likely dysfuntional. Or in some cases to be a form of "punishment" or to establish power and control.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with our sexuality. You are just basically saying that, because some people get sick from food poisoning we should stop eating all together.

                            • Well I still have my problem.

At the moment, my libido does not get to express itself. I don't have any relations with girls, and I don't masturbate. I am afraid this might be unhealthy and is why I am full of nervousness and anxiety all of the time. But I think it would be bad for me to start masturbating. I don't like the idea of porn at all. I think it objectifies women, and I think if I viewed it it would cheapen my view of sex and make me more lusty, more into sex and less into other aspects of a relationship. It would also make me think of sex more as physical pleasure and less affectionate. And if I don't look at porn, I won't be able to help but think of a girl I know while masturbating. And that would be very bad.

And on top of that if I did it, I would just be indulging in pleasure. I'm trying not to be like that.

The thing is though I think most guys are really shallow and lusty. Get a group of guys together talking about sex and you'll see what I mean. I think there is a problem with the male sex drive. The majority of molesters are male. I think all rapists are male (obviously with a few one in a million exceptions). Way more males masturbate than females, and this is statistically proven. More males look at porn, too. Males also tend to be more into the physical aspects of the relationship. Males also tend to view sex as a means to get physical pleasure rather than an act expressing affection.

I don't want to be like that.

And LoTM, I am not religious anymore, but I familiar with the church's teachings on sex.

Wrong is such a uselessly subjective term.
