The problem with having a genuine Rolex is that no one believes it's real. You can buy a perfect fake for 10$ in Bangkok and many other places, while the real thing can cost 10 000$ or more.
I got one for my wife - a 10 meter water proof "divers watch". So I tested it, throwing it to her in the swimming pool. It failed the test, but it recovered after dissassembling and drying in the sun.
As many others, I use my mobile phone as watch.

A friend of mine was chatting to a very attracting woman in a New York bar. She happened to notice his inexpensive watch and abruptly walked out.
Reminds me of my buddy who was chatting a chick at a disco in Haifa, Israel, while he was on leave from his UN soldier duty in Lebanon.
The girl asked him about his civilian occupation and he told her he worked at his uncle's mink farm.
- Oh, those little cute animals that you make luxury furs from?
- Yes
- But isn't it hard to kill such cute animals?
- No, we just put them in a gas chamber and it's done!
That was the moment she just stood up and walked out, leaving my buddy in total confusion, until he realised what he just said

nah-- I buy our family lots of sensible and useful things. I budget well and our net worth is increasing rapidly. I don't regret the occasional frivolous purchase

Hmmm...the Ulysse Nardin watches on that site start at $14k and go up to $57k ... my nicest watch is an antique (pre-WWII) Ulysse Nardin ... I think it may be time to see an appraiser ...
Anyway, I'm still back to my earlier point. Status objects for men tend to have at least some performance edge, which is why men like them: $50,000 cars do, as a rule, outperform $10,000 cars; $2000 suits do, as a rule, wear better and look better than $200 suits. It's difficult to think of any manly status object that sells for 1000x the price of a non-status object that performs equally well. And it's even more difficult to fathom why the market for these objects tend to be men who like being identified as hard-headed, realistic, manly men, like all the military officers I know.
