I'm not sure, but I think you might need to pick placeholders for those spots before you can complete the draft. Then as soon as your guys are available you can drop the placeholders and pick up your real picks.
I don't think you have to pick placeholders... just leave them blank.. and then both of you would have 'dibs' on those players and should be allowed to add them to your team as soon as they come available.
Of course if you choose not to add the rookie (after picking up someone from waivers) a few days after they are available, they are open to anyone .
