Trust me, there are people who go into Bloomingdale's, tell the salespeople how much they will pay for an item, and get it.

Anyway, Bunnygrrl tells me that the reason why the salespeople weren't more cooperative with BK was that he was being difficult. If he had hadn't been making snippy comments from the beginning, they would have been more likely to drop the price of the shoes enough for him to afford it with tax.

Actually, I was very kind and cooperative with the salespeople even when they couldn't find the first shoes that I picked. I just got frusterated when they wouldn't drop the price for the shoes. I doubt that they would have dropped the price regardless, since as DanS says, they don't have the authority.

If you look at the opening post, I asked the question:

If I am running a business and I am offering a large discount in order to free up inventory space, why not make that discount in amounts convenient to the customer? It seems to me basic customer service principles.

Emphasis being on the word 'closest'. Rather inconvenient, if I have to pay a 1.50 fee to pay a 2.00 charge which their machine in the store wanted to charge me.

That is sometimes very effective if you're dealing with salespeople that you suspect may not be empowered to provide sufficient customer service.

I could have talked to the manager, but by then I figured that I had spent enough time trying to get the shoes that it wasn't worth it, and that I would rather go somewhere else to buy them.

Inventory costs money to maintain. If you have things that are not selling at all, it makes sense to discount them heavily to sell them, and to clear the inventory for things that will make you money.



No, just that if you are making a discount, why not make it inclusive of tax?

I'm guessing this thread is at the point where you just need to accept the fact that the gift card doesn't work the way you wanted it to.
