Now this should update daily, this is the current image of soil moisture in the US. Now remember that a hurricane can put several weeks of moisture into an area in days. If it heads towards Mississippi-Alabama (thank God a low probability) it would cause very bad flooding.

I think that opinion in the United States is decidedly different from the rest of the world because we have a free press -- by free, I mean a virgorously presented right wing point of view on the air and available to all.- Ned

Rita is the big topic in Houston.
I am collecting important papers and photos together for fleeing should Rita come calling.

My parents live in Corpus Christi, Texas. This could be bad news for them!

Another excuse for them to jack up gas prices even more. *sigh*

What some folks do not understand is that the longer you wait the longer it takes, the bigger the storm the wider the path the more people effected= More people jamming roadways and fleeing and then gas runs out and panic set in.

I would say with the projected impact being prudent is what Texas is and yes perhaps somewhat "reactionary" but then again having been through too many you need to make early decisions..what its currently scheduled to be in Texas landfall if it continues late Friday night?

Thats only 72 hours (+/- 12 hours) from major impacts..not that long in the big scheme of things.

At least SA is fairly far inland. But still, it's bad. Wish we Canucks could do more for y'all.

Sa is not that far inland from corpus or houston. WE are 173 miles from houston and 120 from corpus.

Lucky, it never got back below about 2.75 here, at least the stations I regularly pass.

Folks on the Texas coast, stay safe... may I recommend that you get out ahead of the rush - the current strength forecasts (though those are not exactly the most accurate things) show Rita to grow to a low cat-4 hurricane in the coming days.
