  • Imran's reasoning is correct. ND's defense is craptastic, so we should not expect them to change all of the sudden for USC. However, I think that ND can be competitive with USC based on a strong offense, two weeks to prepare, and playing at home. Whether that will be enough to give ND a chance to win the game is unknowable, but I'm not expecting a blowout. I have confidence that Weis will have his team prepared, unlike Willingham last year.

    • A competitive game doesn't mean that USC won't pull away at the end as is their signature so far . I think USC may win by 14, but it'll be close until the 4th Q, where USC will explode.

I think in the regular season, USC will have their toughest test (and their only struggle in the 4th Q) against Cal.

      • I think that a competitive game means that ND could win on any given Saturday. There are very many factors. Don't get me wrong -- I'm not predicting an ND win.

However, I would be happy to take odds...

        • So I was working all day and all night yesterday, just got home. But as fate would have it, I had almost nothing to do between noon and 4PM. So I managed to watch the almost the whole game, except for most of the second quarter.

Man, I can not BELIEVE we won that game!

Here was the FINAL final tally before yesterday's games:

          1. USC (11) - 119
          2. Texas (1) - 102
          3. Virginia Tech - 94
          4. Florida - 80
          5. Ohio State - 61
          6. Georgia - 60
          7. Michigan State - 52
          8. Tennessee - 32
          9. Florida State - 25
          10. Notre Dame - 12

          ARV: Cal 9, Minnesota 4, Arizona State 3, Miami 3, UCLA 1, Alabama 1, Penn State 1

          • And my new Top 10--I almost, almost had a new #1. VT looks scary. But the fact that USC came back at Arizona State from a big deficit, and made it look relatively easy, keeps them clinging to #1...

            1. USC
            2. Virginia Tech (+1)
            3. Texas (-1)
            4. Ohio State
            5. Georgia (+1)
            6. Alabama (new--+5)
            7. Notre Dame (+2)
            8. Tennessee (+2)
            9. Cal (new--+2)
            10. Wisconsin (new--+1)

For me, the top seven are a cut above, but the bottom three could really be any of a number of teams, including FSU, Miami, Michigan State, Penn State, UCLA, Arizona State, LSU, Nebraska, Texas Tech, or even--yes--Michigan. Hell, let's even throw Rutgers into that mix.

            Okay, not really.

            • Hey Guy, I might be a HUGE Wisconsin fan, but lets not get yourself in trouble by placing them in the top 10. The only team they have beaten that is/was/should be good was Michigan, and they are having a down year. Everybody else has been chumps. That includes the squeaker they had against the Tar Heels.

              • I just like their running game. Like I said, I could plug any of a number of teams in Wisconsin's spot and feel pretty comfortable; they've just shown me more than some of the other teams in that group.

                • Here is mine for this week. Bama made an impressive showing against Fla. They had to overlook the Hogs last week.

                  5. Georgia

I got the feeling that all they need is a new coach. The year before Cal got a new coach, we had a 1-10 season.

                    The 1 was against Rutgers.

And to think, Dan, I've always repected your posts before. No need to throw in with the Evil Empire just because Meyer's offense doesn't work all that well in a conference with real defenses.

                        I was at that game!

I think Cal beat us by a good number . We were 2-9 that season IIRC.

Not that I'm bitter or anything for Meyer taking the easy way out, when a more challenging job was available.

                          • Fair enough. I had forgotten you guys' role as spurned suitor in that affair. Still, a sarcastic "Go Gaytors" would be much less damaging on your soul than the indelible, black and hideous mark of the beast put there by utterance of those foul little words.

And Solomwi is just jealous that Bama will finish with a better record than the Tigers this year .

                              • I'm already part of an evil empire in many peoples' minds, so there's no more negative karma coming my way by uttering those foul little words.

If it makes you feel any better, those foul little words were only for this one game. I disavow those foul little words for all other games (well, most other games).
