By picking them up and carrying them?

I find this pretty ironic, as a lot of members of this board are very quick to hand out Darwin awards to people who get killed for resisting US Army, London Bobbies or other authorities.

And to be honest, I think you would find it hard to find enough people willing to carry out the order. How far do you go to force someone to leave?
According to Swedish Radio News, the general in charge (can't recall his name) said he refused to give his soldiers the order to force people out at gunpoint. He said that was a police matter.

Hardly, since I would consider these Americans dumbasses too.

Good, using your military for civilian police work is always a bad idea. It also helps that our military, especially the officers, are conditioned to the man to be suspect of such operations. I would rather it stay that way.

            • So basically what we've figured out is that all levels of authority have been found incompetent - from the local authorities right up to the govt...

It seems to me that the thing that has killed the most people (I am hoping this 10,000 figure is way exaggerated as 9/11) was the incomplete evacuation of the most vulnerable people, leaving more than 100,000 people in the hurricane's path. The responsibility of that surely has to rest with the Mayor and possibly the Governor.

Other people seem to have died from lack of relief after the fact - either from lack of medical attention, possibly thirst (any known deaths from that?) and the breakdown of law and order resulting in murders.

These seem to be victims of the inertia manifested by both FEMA and the Federal Govt – perhaps the most obviously spectacular case of incompetence appears to be from Michael Brown, but considering he was apparently incompetent organising a bunch of ****ing horses, the blame for him must surely lie with whatever crackerhead appointed him in the 1st place!!!

Also, if those levees were properly strengthened as asked for and forseen, the city and its inhabitants and probably the bulk of the deaths would have been prevented in the 1st place! So whoever is ultimately responsible for that is ultimately responsible of this entire mess…

Or – basically everyone involved in a position of authority has majorly ****ed up.

Funny to see the Reactionaries dismiss MOBIUS' posts just becuase he is MOBIUS.

Instead of relying on a "Good Samaritan" policy - the fantasy in New Orleans that everyone would take care of the neighbors - the Virginia rescue workers go door to door. If people resist the plea to leave, Mr. Judkins told The Daily Press in Newport News, rescue workers give them Magic Markers and ask them to write their Social Security numbers on their body parts so they can be identified.

"It's cold, but it's effective," Mr. Judkins explained.

Yeah, too many people on this forum argue with their emotions and prejudices instead of their brains, which is why it's so easy to trash their arguments - assuming that they have an argument in the 1st place...

And shock tactics - something has to snap these people back into reality because forcible removal just doesn't sit right and has to be a last resort...

Nice to see you preaching as you post a bald faced lie. No, none of the cut funds would have done anything to strengthen the sections of the levees that failed. If you actually look at the parts that broke, it is obvious they were completed to the level they were designed to be. Or you could just listen to every engineering entity involved that has been trying to tell people this.

How many times does everyone have to tell you this.
