The man gets what he wants.
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

It was signed into law over feeble democratic opposition, when his approval ratings were in the mid-40s. Good job Democrats!

Hmm, an energy bill that did not include drilling in ANWAR? And that was panned as little more than corporate pork, which congress never relly battles anyways?
Yeah, a great success.

Compare Bush's second term success to that of a second term president with a same-party Congress in the past fifty years, and then we'll have a ballgame.

I think all democrats should be ashamed that they can't stop Bush from doing what he wants to do, how he wants to do it. Kerry at least put up a spirited and competent fight.
Man, it must be fun in your world.
The GOP should be ashamed that the Democrats have successfully stymied Bush as much as they have, considering the majorities they enjoy in both houses of congress. That the Dems were even able to force a compromise on the fillibuster is astonishing. And Bush's SS plan is dead, even Republicans aren't going near it.
And the budget? Gee, Clinton got his passed with a hostile opposition-controlled congress that ended up humiliated and politically damaged at the end. Let's see Bush top that.

That was the point I was going to bring up. Kind of sad that Bush isn't getting everything he wants when his party controls both houses. Reid really has done a pretty good job. The Dems have avoided charges of being 'obstructionists' sticking while having Bush's approval ratings going down and down and down.
DanS is drinking the kool-aid. It's sad really.

What's really scary is that conservatives are now booing people like Orin Hatch as not conservative enough. The right wing of the GOP is really going off the deep end.

I'm sure the right wing of the GOP is having a fit over Chuck Hegel! The guy is a conservative, but he simply can't take Bush's lies anymore and he's not sitting back and shutting his mouth.
