The only good Arthur book is Le Morte d'Arthur by sir Thomas Malory.

There were a few good historical bitties....the fact the is well accepted today, which is that Hadrian's Wall was not some sort of rigid frontier beyond which 'here be dragons', but that there were in fact many Roman estates on the north side of the wall...

the movie Saxons were a little over the top...the real saxons were fairly impressed with the romano-british culture...not that that stopped them from showing their appreciation in the usual germanic mode...

The sarmatian thing was a bit of a stretch...I thought we'd see a bunch of romano-british 'equites'..

      EDIT: Braided beards

Whoever thought that the saxons were really hells angels?

Most people don't realise that there were a fair number of saxons in Britain even before the romans pulled out. They had been hired as mercenaries to guard the coast from saxons sea raids. Evidently before the vikings made their appearence the saxons were the sea raiders that the coastal folks of western europe feared.

[the Man in the Iron Mask attacks Zorro. Zorro
              slices a "Z" in the man's shirt]
              Man:What? "N?" What does "N" stand for?
              Zorro:No, no. It's a "Z." I am Zorro. "Z" for Zorro! I
have come to return King Arthur to the throne.
Bart:[in audience] It's a history lesson come to life!
              Lisa:No, it isn't. It's totally inaccurate.
Bart:Quiet! Here come the ninjas. [fighting noises are
              heard from the screen]

Zorro:[laughs, then notices something cut into the lady's slip]
              "SP?" The Scarlet Pimpernel.
              Lady:We're just, uh, friends.
Bart:[in audience] She's lying! Slice her head off!
Zorro:Your honor has been insulted. This will not stand.
              [leaps out the window]
Homer:[in audience] Oh, you don't want to get Zorro mad. [tips
Milk Dud box, dribbling butter on Marge's dress]
Marge:You're pouring hot butter on my leg.
              Homer:Sh, sh, sh.

              opera audience gasps]
Do you accept, or are you a coward?
              Pimpernel:[gets up] I ... am a coward! [runs away]
              [movie audience cheers]
Homer:[in real audience] Woo! You go, Zorro!
King Arthur:I, King Arthur, declare Zorro the new King of
              England!
              Zorro:Yes!

Wait, so King Arthur's tale tells me the Saxons were an utter bunch of bastards, yet Robin Hood's sotry tells me the Saxon's were these great guys under the boot of Norman tyranny.

So what is it, oppressed pansies or bloodthirsty gits?

Robin Hood took place generations after King Arthur. By then, the successfully invading Saxons, Angles and Jutes and in turn been successfully invaded by the Norman French. IIRC, Richard the Lionhearted was the great grandson of Duke William Bastard aka "The Conqueror"

                        We all know that.

The point is, can;t we assume the Saxons deserved what they got after what they did to the poor Celts?

I am calling all protectors of reason, knowledge and wisdom: History is under threat by a gang of unscrupulous posters. They recently used their audacity and perfect organization to ridicule the respected Saxons of the past.

Gepap: So what is it, oppressed pansies or bloodthirsty gits?

                          JohnT: bloodthirsty pansies.
