    IIRC thats more or less what Winston Churchill said in his History of the English Speaking Peoples. As a descendant of norman aristocrats, one thinks that just perhaps Sir Winston was a tad biased on this.

    I mean even the Breton nobles were largely French speaking, and AFAIK the Norman aristocracy didnt reach out at all to the Welsh population, who were celt descendants.

      Holding people responsible for the crimes of other people who just happen to be their ancestors is generally a bad idea.
