I was trying to get the ratings numbers for HNIC (Hockey Night in Canada) to give the Americans an idea of just how big Hockey is in Canada, compared with football, and it's usually around 10 times the viewership. It would be proportional to getting an audience of 30 million in the US.

To be honest, I'm sort of wonder why Canadians like the NHL so much. Most of the teams are in American cities.
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891
In my case, when i was just a boy of 7 or so, the Montreal Canadiens won their 92-93 cup. That was huge for me.
It doesnt matter what the rules are, or who the players are, or what their making. If I see something resembling hockey being played by a bunch of guys in the Bleu Blanc et Rouge, i'll have to cheer.
In my case, I cheer for the laundry, as the saying goes.
Well, we tend to watch the Canadian teams. Even when there were only 6 teams in the league, 4 of the 6 were American.
My team has, and always will be the Vancouver Canucks. Like Ninot, I used to wear the pumpkin orange.

My favorite was Buffalo. Before you groan consider that I grew up watching the French Connection (Perreault, Martin, Robert). End to end hockey that you just don't see anymore.

They used to have blue uniforms. The theory went that bright orange would keep the players better motivated then blue.

It's still a fundamentally Canadian game with by far the largest contigent of players coming from Canada. A tremendous number of the players on the US teams grew up playing minor hockey in Canada

Compare the Canucks jersey with the Habs one, and you'll see why ninot calls them the bleu blanc et rouge.
