    Deja Vu.

Oerdin, do you still make the assumption that "3 years" is "long term ownership"?

American cars tend to fall apart after their warranty expires. Fact of life.

Basically what they're saying is they prefer a different style. That has zero to do with reliability because if reliability was the only factor the Toyota, Honda, and GM would be the only makers still in the market.

Asher is still making stupid claims based upon a nonscientific study. Only people who want to write in to that crap study are included so it is not in any way an example of satistical sampling. You know it; I know it.

This is true -- Canada is #1 in making cars with initial quality.

#2 and #3 are American plants.

These plants make the well-known reliable vehicles such as the Chevy Impala and Monte Carlo.

The initial quality surveys are pretty pointless. The real concern with cars is their longterm reliability, after the warranty expires. That's where American cars do absolutely terrible compared to Toyota/Honda.

**** the workers. I don't care about workers. I care about choices and competition in the market place which doesn't happen if we don't properly manage things. The Japanese know this and it is one reason they've done so well.

Only the people who want to talk to a telemarketer/surveyer answer for the JD Powers & Associates studies, yet you hype them up all the time.

Non-response bias is possible in both cases.

The difference being, every single statistically significant study has shown that American cars fare worse than Japanese in long-term reliability.

At some point you need to stop the ridiculous assertion that for some reason only Japanese-car buyers are sending in good reports and American-car buyers refuse to, and think about the implications...

3-year studies are not long term, period. Especially when they're plagued by non-response bias as well.

Brilliant move by the Japanese. If Ford and GM go under, you can bet the protectionists will be up in arms and any raising of tariffs will hurt Toyota more than raising the price now so they sell a little bit more.

                And they look good.

Don't worry, Asher. Someday, you too will be able to afford a new car and get to stop worrying about 4+ year QC standards.

Compare all Japanese cars to all European cars to American cars and domestics do damn well. It is funny how you pick just the best two Japanese makes and you ignore the other 11 which get their asses handed to them. Secondly you are still full of **** on you baseless claims that "American cars fall apart after their warranty is up". You've been repeatedly pawned on and been shown that it is nothing more then your tackless and baseless opinion. Even Ming laughed his ass off at you.

Feel free to trot out the same crappy nonscientific survey which we've debunked a half dozen times before. We both know that what qualifies as good or bad isn't defined at all in that survey nor does it take a satistical approach in order to prevent systematic errors in data collection. A satistical approach was taken by J.D. Powers though and surprise, surprise you get pawned again.

I'm just perplexed how Oerdin can defend a study that involves a telemarketer calling random households, asking them which car they have and how many defects they've had...while at the same time dismissing Consumer Reports consistent findings.

Who cares about a goddamn quality study? It doesn't relate to this thread.

Actually, it does provide some background as to why this is happening.
