The city health department says food goes bad if left out for more than four hours. But I've never had problems with stuff lef tout overnight, as long as it's not meat.

Most mashed potatoes are made with heavy cream or milk, so it's probably not a good idea to eat them if they have been sitting out overnight unrefrigerated.
milk or eggs are the things that can'make me not eat something that has been left over night...
depends on the form though
(I will eat 40 hour old pizza...)

I think this bears further inestigation to determine the true culprit.
Had the potatos not been mashed, they would have have stood the test of time very well in their natural state. So, this begs the question, who mashed the potatoes? Were there witnesses?
We must consider the possibility of a conspiracy. Were more potatoes mashed than could have been eaten in a single day, for the express purpose of entrapping another party into leaving them out? Che admits that "a huge pot" was made, just after he accuses bunnygrl "My wife left the mashed potatoes out last night."
Did his excitement at leveling the accusation cause him to slip up and expose a conspiracy? Perhaps between himself and the guy in produce at his store? Who sold who all these potatoes which are now ruined???

as for the potatoes.... dont' eat them...
milk , eggs and or cream left out over night
food poisioning is really horrid... don't risk it.
poor bunny girl... now see if she was alone
first there would be no potatoes to worry over
and second... if she did leave them out
she would just say.. damn i left out the potatoes
and that would be the end of it...

boann, of course you don't "need" a man, and if you're at a point where you're content living without anyone there, more power to you. I think the mentality that one "needs" to have someone in one's life like that isn't the healthiest way to approach relationships, anyway. It enables people to settle for partners who aren't very good matches just to satisfy a perceived "need."
Enjoy being on your own and take things as they come. Then, maybe you'll find someone who sparks in you a desire to "need" them, rather than your needs prompting you to find someone.
amazing.. you're quite rational and emotionally healthy boris
