    Thread Police,

The aftereffects of that story are just as important, and it is important to understand WHY they happened.

              Nope, I already addressed it

Secondly, come back and post when you have the courage to actually have an opinion

I thought dinosaurs were supposed to be bold, not like a rodent that steals other people's food and just scurries off when it gets caught. Or, a more appropriate metaphor would be a weasel.

Are you saying that it is impossible to discuss quality of journalism as an seperate issue ?

Of course bad journalism has aftereffects, that is one of the serious problems about it, but to drown the discussion in these aftereffects doesn't really do anything good about preventing bad journalism.

You have a very weak point about the environment that allowed an unchecked story go public, but is that an excuse for newsweek to print a nonverified story ?

What really intererest me is what mechanisms was shortcut in this case. They knew that it was a story that would make headlines; they knew that their information wasn't confirmed, but still they printed it. Why ?
With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.

You don't have to - page one should be enough (evene without reading the OP).

No, just as it is not impossible to add in the effects of the story. You're just being anal.

You're completely missing the relationship between them publishing a story and the effects of it. And no it's not an excuse and never once have I made excuses for Newsweek. Maybe you missed the part where I said they should be brought up on charges.

The reason what they did was so severe was the effects that their story had ON AN ALREADY TENSE SITUATION. The situation was already tense because of what I have pointed out, which were the past abuses of the US. Get it?

                          Anal Thread Police,

Sorry, you do not define what direction a thread takes. Just because you don't like the topic at hand.

                          Thanks

This DL is beginning to bore me.

Winston: The sad part is that CBS will likely look at Newsweek in envy when the wrist slaps they suffered aren't even handed out.

Ouch, we are getting desperate aren't we ? No arguments ? well just pull out the good ole weapon - personal insults.

Where has I ever stated that there are no relationship between the story and the effects ?

If you really think that the effects of the story was so bad, why are you then trying so hard to change the subject from the false story to something about torture ?

Oh, very nice of you to tell me that I'm not allowed to have an opinion different than yours and that you are representative for all others. If you want to discuss torture, fine with me, but that isn't the topic of this thread.
