      You believe wrong.

SCOTUS aren't bureuacrats and they are selected by our representitives and go through a confirmation process and can be impeached and their decisions can be overturned by an act of Congress in many cases.

The power of SCOTUS is neither absolute nor unaccountable. The power of the WTO is.

Well, then there are numerous things that other nations ought to do to the US to retaliate for their unseemly tariffs.

Would you prefer that to accepting the rulings of the WTO with respect to upholding international trade agreements?

My dad works in a sugar-beet processing plant, so he will loose his job if CAFTA gos through. As I said in another thread a few weeks ago, free trade only works between equals, such as the US and EU.

If that was true then we'd still have the Smoot-Holley Tarrif in place and there wouldn't be a foreign made good in this country. The US economy is pretty open and is a fair amount more open then the EU, Japan, or China.

CAFTA looks good though it won't help the US economy at all as the five central American states aren't much of a market. It will lower prices for consumers and give Mexico competition for the cheapest manufacturing location in the free trade zone so it might spur a bit more competition. The people who will really benifet will be the central Americans living in poverty who will finally be able to get some real jobs (low paying though they may be).

He's got to be able to compete, as does everybody else. What gives him a free pass?

                      LoA,

You say the most ridiculous things out of anyone here at Poly. Globalization/Protectionism is a process that the capitalist economy goes through. It's not just the protectionism that ruins the economy its's also free trade. Free trade creates increasing imbalances that governments attempt to alleviate through protectionism. Reducing our manufacturing base to zero is just going to make it harder for us the next time the house of cards comes tumbling down. The only thing stupider that eliminating our manufacturing base would be to eliminate our agricultural base. Service is the least important base. An economy that only provides services is going to be completely ****ed.

because his compitition get's paid sh!t because your fellow Neo-liberals in the WTO and IMF make sure that those 3rd world countries have lax employment laws and regulations.

The US is only the sixth largest exporter to China. That's pitifull considering that we have a currency peg with them that eliminates currency risk. Face it. The US simply sucks as an exporting nation, and that is not going to change.

Welcome to economic reality. If he can't compete, then he should go out of business, just like everybody else.
