Protectionism is taking from my and everybody else's pocket and putting it in his dad's. Indeed, this falls the hardest on the poor in the US and overseas. Screw that. I feel no need to sugarcoat what's happening.

I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

Oh, wah, poor Wal-Mart will get less profit to fatten it's executives with.

Poor consumers pay for the protectionist's selfishness every time they go to the supermarket. Poor overseas farmers pay for the protectionist's selfishness every time they go to market to sell their produce.

Listen, I work in the industry. My paycheck comes in part from this BS. That doesn't make protectionism right.

A big chunk of the cost difference goes to fattening the pockets of corporate big-wigs. *cough* $100 Nikes *cough*

I'm not in the habit of agreeing with DanS, but I'm with him here.
Why can't you be a non-conformist just like everybody else?

Talk about BS. You have to have a job to even be a consumer in the first place. If you have a job at least you can pay your rent which has nothing to do with trade.

I don't know what the argument is about. Saying something is wrong does nothing.

Nikes shouldn't cost $100 per pair!!! But ppl pay it so why not charge it?
                  Monkey!!!

People put up with the $100 crap because of marketing. Basically you are paying a sh*tload of money to be a hip "in-style" yuppie.

D'uh Japher. We aren't actually doing anything here. We're just talking.

Don't you pay it to be down with the hip hop crowd?

I have to pay the bills, I don't have enough money to buy crap. I would rather pay $20 for EU2 than $100 for new shoes, anyway.

The WTO is the only international body dealing with the rules of trade between nations. At its heart are the WTO agreements, the legal ground-rules for international commerce and for trade policy.

Check the WTO's website and you find the US is not only the world's largest exporter but it leads the world in a large number of fields. It's hard to say a country sucks at exporting when it is so dominate at doing it.
