I don't think there is one. KH goes to Johns Hopkins in Baltimore*, but he's a grad student getting his PhD (or is it Masters?) in physics.

*don't they have a campus in DC, too?

OK, we can put the surcharge on Physics students then.

Be grateful! This time we're trying to miss...

The alternative would be firing a missile into Mexico and that's just unacceptable.

It's hard for the yanks to piss me off enough to side with all the canucks.

          But this takes the cake!

Why don't the Americans launch their 'classified' payload over American airspace?

            PhD

I think he would already have his masters if he wanted it

Cause they need to go near Canada to get it where they need it?

What, you thought they could fire it straight up and then call a cab to move it over where it's supposed to go?

It's an odd time I might agree with PH, but his comment about shutting down London because of the planes flying overhead seems pretty reasonable.

Um...because polar orbital insertions require aiming towards the poles?

                edit: dammit, nye...

                  Planes are one thing.

Missiles with a 'classified' payload quite another.

People accept the risk posed by planes, because of why they are used, to transport people from one place to another.

Please show me what need there is to fire this particular missile at the North Pole?

                    polar orbit

(DOD) A satellite orbit in which the satellite passes over the North and South poles on each orbit, and eventually passes over all points on the earth. The angle of inclination between the equator and a polar orbit is 90 degrees.

US Department of Defense Dictionary of Military and Associated Words, 2003

                    Wikipedia
                    polar orbit

A satellite in a polar orbit passes above or nearly above both poles of the planet (or other celestial body) on each revolution. It therefore has an inclination of (or very close to) 90 degrees to the equator.

Since the satellite has a fixed orbital plane perpendicular to the planet's rotation, it will pass over a region with a different longitude on each of its orbits.

Polar orbits are often used for earth-mapping-, earth observation- and reconnaissance satellites, as well as some weather satellites.

To face one polar area a large part of the time, albeit at a large distance, an elliptic orbit with a high eccentricity with apogee above that area, is applied: a Molniya orbit.

Yeah, but why over the North Pole?

And if this is just a weather satellite, than I'm sure the US wouldn't mind releasing the contents of their 'classified' payload?

Also, this brings to mind what happened when Canadians in Afghanistan were shot down by an American pilot.

Did we ever recieve proper compensation and acknowledgement that wrong had been done?

The US doesn't care a whit about Canadians, and this missile proves it.

                          If it's classified, I doubt it's a weather satelite.

It's more than likely a missle detection satelite going into a Molniya obit covering some region of the far north, since most ICBMs aimed at us would take such a route.

Yeah, but why over the North Pole?
Because they've been firing these things up there for the last 40 years?

And how many times, have such missiles dropped stages on Canada?
