This isn't true, apparently. He would be the fourth black pope.

It would be interesting if true but a lot of these black nationalists make things up. For instance in that web site they claimed people in Cyrene were black when Cyrene is on the north coast of Libya.

    • I'm more interested in what name the new Pope shall adopt. I doubt he'll be another John Paul, as that would put him too much in the shadow of his predecessor. Gregory XVII seems a bit much. Another Pius, Benedict or Clement? Would Innocent be too self-aggrandizing today?

      How about Lando II?

        • Victor was the first African pope (i.e., from the Roman provinces of Africa. He could have been a native or a descendant of Roman colonists; Romans were largely colorblind and a person's race was rarely recorded).

Pope St. Militiades was numidian from modern Tunisia so it is unlikely he was black.

Pope St. Gelasius was from Africa (meaning the Roman proviences in North Africa) but born in Roman. He could possibly have been black or be decended from Roman settlers.

No. I thought the mention of Lando would have clued people in that I wasn't being very serious.

            • Of the major candidates, my preferences would be Mardagiada of Honduras or Daneels of Belgium. Hummes (Brazil) and Policarpo (Portugal) don't seem too bad either.

Reuters has an interesting summary of the candidates:
"Beware of the man who works hard to learn something, learns it, and finds himself no wiser than before. He is full of murderous resentment of people who are ignorant without having come by their ignorance the hard way. "

              • Catechism of the Roman Catholic Church

2358 The number of men and women who have deep-seated homosexual tendencies is not negligible. This inclination, which is objectively disordered, constitutes for most of them a trial. They must be accepted with respect, compassion, and sensitivity. Every sign of unjust discrimination in their regard should be avoided. These persons are called to fulfill God's will in their lives and, if they are Christians, to unite to the sacrifice of the Lord's Cross the difficulties they may encounter from their condition.

2396 Among the sins gravely contrary to chastity are masturbation, fornication, pornography, and homosexual practices.

In other words, Catholic Church supports equal marriage but doesn't realize it yet.

Christianity: The belief that a cosmic Jewish Zombie who was his own father can make you live forever if you symbolically eat his flesh and telepathically tell him you accept him as your master, so he can remove an evil force from your soul that is present in humanity because a rib-woman was convinced by a talking snake to eat from a magical tree...

                      • I'd go with the Indian or the Nigerian just because the growth is going to come from Africa or Asia and this wll enerate a lot of interest in those two areas. Failing that an Latin American would be good followed by a North American and a European last.

                        • Alright everyone since the Pontiff has passed on it is now time to revive another old Catholic tradition of selling Papal relics. That's right we'll use an axe to chop him into little pieces then sell the bits to the highest bidder. Who will start the bidding on the papal pinky? It will make a fine relic and will even fit on a necklace if a hole is drilled in it.

Don't worry Ted, my boy, the mummified Papal Penis is coming up next. Supposedly mummified Papal Penises grant sexual prowess to their owner (you must be married and not use a condom of course) so I'm sure you'll be interested in that one.

                            • Are you sure you don't want to bid? I understand the Papal penis was hardly used and is in like new condition.

                              • Didn't he die from a bladder infection/complication? I'd hardly call that "new condition"
