Seconded. Devils hooked, held, and obstructed their way to victory in that third period. Senators, despite outskating, outpassing, outhitting and outchancing them all period, made one mistake and it ended up in the back of the net.
The sequence that stuck out for me was with about six minutes left to play; the Senators were all over the Devils at that point and it seemed like just a matter of time. Two Senator forwards -- neither of whom had touched the puck -- were hauled down going to the net, with Mike Fisher ending up sitting on the ice with the goalpost between his legs. After the whistle, Fisher looked up at the ref with an expression that seemed to say, How much of this **** are you going to let them get away with?!
In October, that would've been a penalty. In May, the refs shrug their shoulders because 'the players should decide the games'. The part about 'within the rules' gets left off .
Well, the NHL gets the final it deserves this season -- two teams that between them had just one 80-point man and only 6 20-goal scorers, and depend on Defense, Defense, Defense with a side of Goaltending to win.
Colour me . I won't be watching. Call me in October.

This will be a fun series... but I see the Ducks winning, in six games. The simple difference: Brodeur has been human at times. J.S. Giguere is GOD right now. Period. Additional prediction for the moment: Ducks take game one despite the week-long layoff.

Yeah, and Eddie Belfour was God in 2000, yet the Devils beat him like a drum in Game 1 and took the series!
GO DEVILS!

This is different, Imran. Giguere has the second-highest playoff save percentage... in history. Belfour was good, but he wasn't *that* good.

DEVILS up 1 games to nil!! Putting on a hockey clinic while doing so.
Go Devs!

It's a good thing Roy retired.
Brodeur's close to setting the all-time playoff shutouts record. Isn't this number 19?

Looks like Anaheim forgot how to play playoff hockey during that long break.
It feels like Brodeur is sending a message to Giguere - "I can play shutout hockey too, and I've been doing it longer than you!" The Devil's players are also taunting Giguere alot, which is kinda cheap (but part of the game).
What has been striking is that the Devils are making Gigure look human. I mean any goalie will get lit up once in a while, but the Devils are doing it by destroying Anaheim's defense, which is very interesting. See if they can keep doing it. Maybe they saw something on tape that they could exploit (the Devils are very good at that).

You're right about the defence, although there was one goal that Giguere should have had, that one that went past his leg.
Still, this is a boring series, because, and I really hate to say this, the Devils look unbeatable.
maybe ESPN's Anaheim ass-licking will stop now... I hope the Ducks get swept just like the Florida Panthers in '96. This has been the worst Cup Finals I can remember.
If they get swept, then it'll be even worse Sava . If the Ducks put up a fight, then it could be interesting.
