    Re: Menace of "Superman".

In the past year since his appearence in Metropolis the entity known by the media as "Superman" has saved a space shuttle, thwarted numerous schemes by Bald Corporate Bastards, and generally stopped small scale crime throughout Metropolis, bizarrely criminals still flock to the city.

Dispite these events, there is much we do not know of "Superman", other than that he is an extraterristrial from the planet "Kyrpton", a claim NASA, the Sagan Institute, and the Randi Foundation find dubious. He appears to be immune to all manner of American small-arms weaponry, as well as prototype weapons from the LexLuthorCorp. Flight, superspeed, "Heat Vision", "Ice Breath", and superhuman strength is just the tip of the iceberg.

"Superman" has declined to be examined by several dozen promient institutions, from Texas A&M to S.T.A.R. Labs. To this day we do not know what his limits are, but backup plans must be made.

National Command Authority has ordered devolpement of a 'black' project that would disable and/or kill "Superman". America is very vulnerable to this menace, and as yet his true intentions are unknown, even more worrisome, there is a high likelyhood that if "Superman" man is indeed a E.T., then there could be others like him. A solution must be found as soon as practical.

You are hereby authorized an amount of (Ludricous sum) to devolp a way to kill Superman as a contingency plan to our national security. America's fate, if not the world's, may rest on you.

Does superman still become normal in orange sunlight? (as i remember, sunlight of the same type as that from krypton's sun makes him, well, "human", no?)

Construct a 'skyscraper' which in reality simply has one normal ground floor, and all the upper 'floors' consist of a single mass of solid lead, or some other dense metal. Below ground is an equal distance of metal. Lure Superman into the centre of the ground floor and detonate charges which will cause the upper gigantic slab of metal to fall onto the lower slab, coccooning the target within a small space in the centre of the trap. Automatic pistons and interlocking hooks etc will be engaged to seal the trap in case Superman tries to merely throw off the upper segment. The small space in the centre of the trap will be flooded with nerve gas to try and incapacitate the target. The entire apparatus have an inbuilt cooling system to slow Superman's use of his heat vision.

Superman will suffocate or be overtaken by the nerve gas.

Red Sunlight, and since this is post-crisis, no. It use to be that "red sunlight" would instantly begin to affect him, no it's merely lack of "yellow sun" which goes away much slower.

HOWEVER, if he is away from any sunlight for an extended period of time (several days, weeks) he would get week.

The trick, of course, is preventing the sun from hitting him. If you can capture him without blocking the sun from him, you probaly don't need to pull that stuff.

Likewise, if you block the sun from earth for any amount of extended time, you can expect civilian casualties to start to rise.

Well the best one was when some evil dude surrounded him with forcefield, and forced him to dissociate his atoms by vibrating back and forth, then reassembling them, flying over a wired floor, and catching a wire before the electrons flowed through it and pulling the wire out.

All we gotta do is mimic that. Could a force field be generated that passes through human but not krypton flesh? This (or many of these) could be applied across Metropolis, and then narrowed down on him. This would incapacitate him at least, and possibly the effort of his escape attempt would forever atomise him...

Kill Superman, or render him incapable of harm?

What about sending him far away from Earth, under sedation?

Ask him to participate in some scientfiic experiments for the good of mankind, so that we might better understand his powers.

Lock him deep within a massive government bunker in order to 'test' his powers, by placing a lead blindfold over his eyes.

Set a deadman's switch for Superman's hand, that if he releases the switch, it will trigger a switch that will kill Superman's adoptive parents by dropping them in a vat of acid.

Set a second switch, so that if the first lock on the door is broken, Superman's adoptive parents will again be dropped in acid.

Line all the walls with lead, having a monitor available, showing Superman's parents, and the acid. This way Superman does not know how to rescue his parents, but is aware of the price for not co-operating with the tests. Turn the monitor off, so that if Superman gets uncooperative, you can tell him not to stop pressing the switch.

Since you are at the bottom of a large bunker, change the light to match that of a Red Giant star, with respect to the spectral class. At this point, Superman should lose his powers.

While pressing Superman's hand down on the deadman's switch, lethally inject him with poison.

He dies, continue pressing the switch, leave the room through the lock, and release Superman's adoptive parents.

Sandman's and Obiwan's may be the best so far, although there would have to be a few modifications. (Superman can hold his breath for an extened period of time and may be able to get in time.)

Obviously, Red Light is as good as "no light" in this case. However, the trick is in getting him to agree with this. As stated by the OP, Supes hasn't allowed himself to be examined in any meaningful way.

                          I really like Sandman's idea.

I'm trying to get the creative juices flowing. Besides, Al Ghul used Wayne's Red Kryptonite, which he created after study of the Green Kryptonite ring.

Again, Kryptonite is to rare. Guess again!

I like Sandman's method, but I fear Superman could fly out sideways when the lead block drops. Even a few walls wouldn't stop him, and if you make it thick enough to stop him flying through, then he'd suspect something.
