EXPLOSION ROCKS US BASE
An explosion has rocked a US navy base in Bahrain, reports say.
The blast happened at the US Navy 5th Fleet base.
The cause was not clear.
Security officials at the scene said it may have been a bomb, reports said.
But an Information Ministry official said the explosion was caused by a cooking-gas cylinder.
They said it caused alarm but no injuries or serious damage.
The explosion occurred outside a compound housing Americans across the street from the base, about 100 meters away.
Windows were broken in several villas inside the compound.
A forensic team arrived and police blocked off the site.
Some 4,000 US military personnel are attached to the base.

We have just been told that 40% of the water supply has been returned to Basra. The water and electricity there have both been cut off since Saturday.
What the coalition forces have been dealing with over the last 24 hours is artillery fire from the city. It is quite heavy artillery fire.
The British are accusing the Iraqi fighters of placing their artillery operation on top of the citizens of Basra. This is a highly undesirable situation for the British forces who are trying not to cause harm to civilians.
Just to give you a small window into Basra, some of my colleagues from the Arabic service have been talking to family members in the city.
They say there are staying in their homes, that they are fearful of going out. They say the streets are busy with fighters, believed to be members of the Ba'ath party.
It looks like there are rough days ahead for Basra.Comment

SOLDIER KILLED IN RIOT
A British soldier killed in southern Iraq was shot by rioting civilians, it has emerged.
The soldier died this morning after being shot yesterday near the city of Basra, military officials said.
Two more are still missing after fierce fighting in and around the city.
The dead soldier, whose name was not released, was killed near Al Zubayr in southern Iraq, a British military official at Allied Central Command in Qatar said.
"Next of kin have been informed and further details will be given when they become available," the official said.

The bridges' location isn't given, but undoubtedly they're the main bridges east from An Najaf on the eastbound road to Ash Shamiyah and the northbound road to Al Hillah.
My guess is that 3 ID is now in or close to the open desert between lakes ar Razazah and al Habbaniyah, as part of a move to surround, isolate and destroy IRG Medina before it could retreat into Baghdad.
