How does mean the navy won the war?!

California was already liberated and called the Great Bear State under Fremont.

That's another biased site Imran. An encyclopedia has a reputation to keep. It's a much more reliable source. Of course there is going to be biased information out there to make the US look good.

Oh look every site that is opposed to mine, EVEN when written by a PHD. is biased .

Encyclopedias always have to be revised because they are consistantly wrong.

There is no sense arguing with you when you say every site opposed to your view is biased and wrong. Why I even bothered is a mystery to me.

You aren't looking at the whole picture. You just look at some biased US sites and believe what they tell you. You have to read into the bias of the author when you read stuff like that.

some sensible people left in the world...
                  Indeed.

US naval supremacy? Standard joke here is the 'Monroe Doctrine' espoused by the Americans and enforced by the British navy. Does anyone have figures on the naval US forces for the time?

And they did. The Bear Flag Revolt was no more effort than the efforts of the Navy.

                      • There is a simple fact that you guys are missing. The war was orchestrated and planned by the US. Imrans sources say that Polk worked for peace during the whole war. That is total crap.

                          • 1. I oppose the war since I doubt the ability of our primate-in-chief and his administration to prosecute this war in the interests of justice and liberty. It will be prosecuted in the interests of increasing the authority of the US, completely antithetical to justice and liberty for reasons I've already elaborated on many, many times.

                            2. The US was unquestionably a stronger country than Mexico prior to the Mexican War. In terms of political unity, economic prosperity, and manpower, the US was unquestionably in the stronger position. Initial military power doesn't win a war. After Santa Anna's centralist coup d'etat in '36, Mexico was in Civil War. Hence, the Republics of Texas, Yucatan, Rio Grande, etc. and even to a certain extent the Bear Flag Republic. This meant that the US could easily mobilize manpower and material, but Mexico, even if it had troops seasoned by continuous rebellion, couldn't. The most important disparity between the American and Mexican armies was that artillery, where the US had the decided advantage.

                            3. The US started the war, not Mexico. Polk sent an army into the contested territory between the Nueces and Rio Grande to provoke a reaction from Mexico. This comes right after the US annexed Texas. Furthermore, Polk had admitted that sending an army into the no-mans' land was a ploy to provoke reaction, and that if that didn't work, he'd use Mexico's refusal of the US' offer to buy California as a casus belli.
"Beware of the man who works hard to learn something, learns it, and finds himself no wiser than before. He is full of murderous resentment of people who are ignorant without having come by their ignorance the hard way. "

                            • Bill Clinton presided over an economic bubble. Now it popped. I don't blame Clinton for the bubble or Bush because it popped. The problem was and is greed.

                              • ...and by the way: We stole part of Mexico regardless of who had the best military. That is a sad fact of our history that must be faced.
