  • I am sick of my being gay being illegal in my state?

For those of you that don't already know how backwards the US is 14 States, Puerto Rico and the military have criminal sodomy laws. This applies to any sexual act other than the missionary style (man on top of woman).

At least my state unlike Texas, Kansas, Missouri, and Oklahoma doesn't discriminate between heterosexuals and homosexuals in theory (those states have sodomy laws against only homosexuals), though almost all sodomy charges are harbored against homosexuals here anyway.

The statute in my state makes it "a crime against nature", and a class 1 Felony!!! A felony... I might as well go out and bomb a building and steal from a bank everytime I have sex, because if I ever get caught I will put away like I'm some major criminal. This is rediculous.

Of course it is ridiculous, and a gross infringement of civil liberties. What consenting adults choose to do is of absolutely no issue to the state whatsoever...

When was the last time someone was prosecuted under your State's laws against homosexuality?

While I certainly don't support the statute I suspect bombers and bank robbers are prosecuted....

        *raises eyebrow*

Doubtful. Do you have any evidence for this presupposition?

It should be a principle though as well, any such law should be repealed for all it stands for. Homosexuals and heterosexuals should have complete parity under law.

            That's 'parity' not 'parroty'

Most prostitutes in my city are prosecuted with this, and I live in a very liberal city, surrounded on all sides by the hell hounds of the Christian right. Anyway, the police use the threat of prosecution to get their way with anyone who is gay (and yes they do this)...

PH - I agree completely. The law itself is offensive, but it would be more offensive if it was applied.

It is often easier to allow a law to fall into disuse rather than attempt to repeal it. The law books of most jurisdictions are full of obsolete offences.

It is also used to deny people jobs and places to live... because they don't want worker or tenants that commit felony illegal acts.

Thorn - only gay prostitutes? I doubt it. I suspect they are prosecuted under 'prostitution/solicitation' statutes - not homosexualty ones....

                        No they get both...

Anyway in court a gay person's can be discredited as being a assumed participating felon because of the laws... and this can be used in civil and criminal courts.....

Write the governor. Promise him you'll perform each 'offending' act on him if he (or unless he ) changes the law.
