What is happening here? The most stupid and longest names countries are all near of Greece? Is this the counterpart to the high-level of hellenic philosphy?

    • XarXo, in Lithuanian language we tend to ignore those names . We call FYROM "Makedonija" ("Macedonia") in Lithuanian and use "Makedonijos Respublika" ("Macedonian Republic") as the long (official) name. Name "Makedonijos Buvusi Jugoslavø Respublika", into what word FYROM would be translated, is unheard of.

BTW, in English we should also use Macedonian Republic as the long (official) name since it is direct translation of same name in macedonian language.

We call northern cyprus just "Turkø Kipras" ("Turkish Cyprus").

As for GDPs, I've checked CIA factbook. It is 7000$ in Turkish side and 15000$ in Greek side.

I doubt many of Turks seriously wants to reunite... Probably some, but not many. I doubt that you yourself would like Greece to join for example USA, even if you could live better then.

No, it's quite true. Doesn't quite fit into your imagined
        reality does it?

Seems to me Greece covets it's neighours property Yugoslavia-Macedonia, Turkey - Cyprus.

        • Thats just Anti-hellenistic ramblings.

          No surprise.

Sonic, the vast majority of turkish cypriotes do want to reunite and they demosntarte in favor of it.
They live in poverty and a dictatorship surrounded by paramilitary squads of fascists, savage settlers from far anatolia and suffer deprivation.

Ankara wants the island to reunite too, for its own reasons.

Is this how you describe your neighbours?

Beat the drum, whip up the hatred, dehumanize the intended victims.

                  • and thats how i describe the fascists that run the dictatorship in occupied cyprus.

the greay wolves the paramilitary the shootings the poverty

the turkish cypr just want freedom

its sad that their dictator denies them.

but there are many parameters all conjuring in the reuninification of CYprus.

in any case greek cypr. rich free and independent are in the EU.

turkish cypr. are welcomed too by the greek . cypr.

                    • if their powerhungry dictator lets them, or if ankara twists his arm into leting them.. then they can too enjoy prosperity and freedom like the greek cypr. do.

                      • it is no mistake that you have not yet spoke of the attrocities of the turkish invasion which is condemned by the whole international community...
and encapsulated by the fact that this murderous act is not recognised and is trying to be solved.

or the numerous contemnations against Turkey by the justice court of EU, international observers etc.

whereas for Greece, there is scarsely any to be found.

just an antihellene DL incapable of free thinking.

I don't hate Greece, I don't like some elements of the
mainland greek popluation and government activity
trying to disstablize someone elses country.

I also don't hate the US for having elements that
                          support the IRA in Ireland.

I do however hate some little snot justifing murder
as "freedom fighting" when it is just a cover for
terroritorial expansion. And then trying to blame
it on everbody else. You have you already smeared
Turkey, Britain, the US and most of the EU.

If you want to really see the problem, look in a
                          mirror.

Gobbels would be proud of you.

                            • the answers are already given BTW,.

cyprus asked for independance from britain since it was dirt poor and exploited.

greece oroginaly did not want to risk alianating uk . except when on dictatorship.

                              uk refused. armed struggle ensued.

brits off cyprus ect etc etc

                              in earlier posts.

One post their a minority, next post a majority, which
                                is it?

Fighting for a free Cyprus, or fighting with mainland
                                money for Greece?

When did they fight the Turks? They fought farmers
and fisherman until the Turks sent in the army.

As for the oppressive British, was the Greek government
better than the British at the time? That argument is
a crock of crap, it was just the mainland Greeks supplying money, guns, bombs and bandits.
