Could an Israeli tell me how they propose to bring peace to the area. Force has not worked(people who blow themselves up can't be beaten militarily) taking over their land just gets them more angry.

I am not questioning Israels right to self defence, I would just like to know how they proporse to get peace.

CyberGnu, I can't see a point in saying that Israelis do not have a moral right to be there. This sort of argument is supremely unhelpful if the objective is peace and not endless bloodshed. If it was 1917 the story might be different but now Israel is populated with people who only know Israel as there home. It is ridiculous to say they don't have 'moral rights' to be there.

I don't know if they have or haven't honestly, I think they see it for what it is. A nuisance that continually reminds us of Israel's occupation of the Golan and Sheeba farms. Hasn't the UN directed a number of resolutions at a number of arab states in the past as well?

First of al, madarin: hypocracy is fitting to no one. Staing in a biased fashion that others are biased is the fastest way to get nowhere. If you whish to start a thread about how everyone hates Jews/Israel, go ahead and start a new thread: you will have plenty of people willing to engage you in sucha "discussion". If not, It would be nice for you to make arguments with evidence, or at least, well reasoned arguments on one or another of the many topics of this thread, such as water, or the 1967 war.

Azazel: As they say, it takes two to Tango. Israel and Hizbullah both have a nice little *** for tat thing going on in the northern border. All these 'fears' of Hizbulah 'escalation' have been going on sicne 2000. They haven't panned out. They injure IDF troops, Israel attacks Hizbulah targets, and the dance continues.
As for the UN: Hizbulah isn't a member of the UN, only states get that privaledge, so how the UN handles Hizbulah is in an indirect fashion. Lebanon is a member, and so is Israel. So, the UN can easily react to IDF incursions into Lebanese airspace better than it can Hizbullah actions accross the border. And yes, Israel has few friends in the UN, but as I have said before, it takes two: Israel as done little to improve its relations with the UN. As for your claims, evidence as always would be nice. Claims are not enough to justify actions against civilian personel of an international body.
The UN , like all audiences, roots for the underdog. Israel had plenty of buddies at the UN in the early 50's, but it sort of used up any goodwill over the years.
