Not meant as an offense, but for a time Mormon doctrine was explicitly racist. I was just using it as an example of someone using religious beliefs to justify racism. And I pointed out that other religious sects have done the same. Southerners used the Bible to justify enslaving Blacks, some Muslims use their faith to justify hating Jews, etc.
I'm aware mainstream Mormonism has renounced these tenets, so sorry for the comment.
You are correct about the racism. I believe that blacks weren't allowed to hold priesthood until the 70's.
It is, however, still a sexist church. Women have zero power in the church and in the family as far as the church is concerned.
I am not an active member because of these, and other reasons.
Don't try to confuse the issue with half-truths and gorilla dust!

Point is, these people should be held to the same standard as EVERY other employee. Because they believe in a certain thing, it does not give them the right to skip mandatory training sessions does it...particularly ones that are designed to increase tolerance.
That has to go both ways, Drake. Would you be upset if two gay men refused to go to a workshop to advocate tolerance for Christians?
"The great rule of conduct for us in regard to foreign nations is to have with them as little political connection as possible... It is our true policy to steer clear of permanent alliances with any portion of the foreign world, so far as we are now at liberty to do it." George Washington- September 19, 1796
Why do you assume that any reasonable person would (assuming there had been a similar history of discrimination against Christians in that facility/system)?
I can see some point in the future, where an employer decided to hold a seminar for religious understanding and tolerance. A couple of atheists, having heard of this case, decide to try something, and take a copy of New Scientist along to the meeting, which they read silently. Their employer tells them to stop acting like a couple of intolerant ******, they sue, and a judge is forced to award them tens of thousands of dollars because of this case.

If I were the person who said they should go to such a meeting, of course, I would. And if my upset at their not doing what I pay them to meant they took me to court and had to pay them $78,000, I bet we'd be hearing cries condemning the political correctness of it all...

Of course...the topic of the seminar really hasnt anything to do with it......its the idea that people can make money off thier refusal to do something at work, simply because of thier personal beliefs.
Like I said earlier, you want to be a racist, sexist bigot at home, thats fine feel free to do so....but when you go to work, you play by someone elses rules..not your own.
I see the world through bloodshot eyes
Streets filled with blood from distant lies.
The topic is immaterial.
You resummed it up perfectly.
If I was there boss, I'm sure I could make their live's miserable without being blatant about it. There are other ways to punish employees without firing or officially reprimanding them.
It's almost as if all his overconfident, absolutist assertions were spoonfed to him by a trusted website or subreddit. Sheeple
