Ever heard the saying "Don't trust anyone." But that doesn't mean that you can't trust anyone.

Just food for thought. . .
      HAVE A DAY.
<--- Quote by Former U.S. President Theodore "Teddy" Roosevelt
"And there will be strange events in the skies--signs in the sun, moon, and stars. And down here on earth the nations will be in turmoil, perplexed by the roaring seas and strange tides. The courage of many people will falter because of the fearful fate they see coming upon the earth, because the stability of the very heavens will be broken up. Then everyone will see the Son of Man arrive on the clouds with power and great glory. So when all these things begin to happen, stand straight and look up, for your salvation is near!" --Luke 21:25-28
For the Lord himself will come down from heaven with a commanding shout, with the call of the archangel, and with the trumpet call of God. First, all the Christians who have died will rise from their graves. Then, together with them, we who are still alive and remain on the earth will be caught up in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air and remain with him forever. --1 Thessalonians 4:16-17

          Asher:

Heh. My thoughts exactly. I told 'em to either get a Macintosh the next time or a Dell Dimension. They're keeping their options open.

PCs are like cars. There are good ones, there are bad ones. If you get a bad one and it's a POS you shouldn't blame PCs for it, but blame the manufacturer.

Macs are like ridiculously overpriced bicycles by one vendor. There's not much you can do to tweak it, and it's certainly not very fast, but it gets the job done.

to get control over a Mac, you need Linux level know how

That's not true. You can't control Windows unless you have a really good knowledge of what's going on.

How many Windows users, by percentage, knows about msconfig? What percentage of that knows what the programs in startup do, esp. with XP?

I haven't even gotten into win.ini, system.ini, and the registry yet.

You can still control more of Windows through the Control Panel than you can through the default exposed widgets in OS X, UR.

That's assuming you know what you are doing. Look at the bunch of services in XP. Yeah, they all do something, but what?

                      Start -> Help and Support

In the top left of the screen, in the big blue "Search" box, type the service name. Voila.

Or the really smart ones look in the "Description" column which says what the service does.

Back to the OP, it's really your call. PCs are cheaper, and if you really want, you can get Linux or Lindows preinstalled from Wal-Mart.

The real question is, why do you want to buy a new computer?

                          Mac....

Most programs are designed with Windows/PC in mind. Thus, Mac owners must wait for software to come out that is compatible with their purple technological embarrassment that call Mac.

It seems to be a testament to the superiority of Windows/PC, when Mac has to offer a program that lets you run Windows XP. Mac never gained a foothold in the market, and probably never will.

How cheap is it for Mac users to upgrade their systems? Is it even possible? Can they double their RAM with 100 bucks? Can they buy 40x CD-R drives?

A friend recently bought a Dell, 1.4 Ghz, 256 RAM(with two more memory sticks free with rebate), a CD-RW, and a DVD drive, AND a flat panel monitor, for 1300. Can Mac compete with that?

                          I've raved long enough.

None of this is of any use to Joe Average user. That's at least 80% if not 90% of all Windows users.

The average user doesn't need that much control, but if they do it's right at their fingertips with a point-and-click interface and plenty of help files.
