I believe its up to 2 years working permit for CommonWealth citizens. Which puts some perspective on a few of the more inflammatory comments.

Really, I have always found him to be that way. With a certain amount of self-righteousness thrown in for good measure.

Aw, don't be like that. It's always a shame when a clown gets cross and shirty. Make 'em laugh!

Laz, surely you would agree that it is better for Britain to accept immigrants who speak the language over those who don't.

You expect a straight answer? Look back on this thread and see (amongst his attempts at putting people down) if he's actually made any kind of suggestion about what Britain's policy with asylum seekers should be.

                    Its a pointless exercise.

This is a digression, because my concern is over asylum seekers. For them, the test should not involve language tests. Would you send someone back to torture if they couldn't speak English?

Having said that, we apply no language tests to EU citizens, and they seem to manage.

Other than my continually stated thoughts that the blanket condemnations by Little Englanders are a bad thing?

Believe it or not, I think our current policies are pretty good. It's not governmental policy I'm attacking- it's media demonisation, and casual slaggings by people like your good self.

I hate to state the obvious, but I have to in your case. Would you like me to use smaller words in future?

Spink and Blackstone should form a tag-team. Spink would look dead foxy in spandex.

Again another exaggeration and more emotive language. Asylum seekers will not be deported, turned away, or in anyway affected by their lack of spoken English. The proposal was, as I understand it, that those who are seeking refuge in this country will be asked to take English speaking lessons. Now I would have thought that this would be of immense help to them. Making settling in easier, and giving them a better start in their new country.

For all of the talk earlier about the Daily Mail I should be surprised to see the amount of scare mongering rhetoric in the above quote, but sadly I am not. It follows the initial statement in vein and vacuity.

Its the same as the Tories during an election, nothing to say of any real substance so lets dress it up and scare them into believing in us.

A poor show by the disenfranchised left, socialist worker would be proud.
