Well, Australians are hardly renowned for their intelligence.

Lots of people like to travel and work. Especially people in the hospitality industry. Lets them travel longer.

Operative term 'work'. I'm sure there are just as many Brits here in Canada doing the same thing. We don't hold the accent against them. Do you have a problem with that Bugs?

Actually... what's great about Canada is you just have to get to an airport in Canada, no matter what colour you are or what language you speak (or don't). Claim to be a refugee. They'll process you. The nice people will find you accomodations that do not place heavy restrictions on you (like jail, or a concentration camp). Just walk away. Get a job. Nobody will bother you ever again. There are so many people from all over that you'll blend in, as long as you never require healthcare, or welfare, or a pension, etc. Although, there are probably ways to get those too.

In Canada, our motto should be "the more the merrier". Ain't it great.

Of course you'll also have to put up with minus 40 centigrade from time to time. Blizzards in May. BC, Alberta, Quebec, Ontario. Constitutions. Celine Dion. Anne Murray. Hockey. And, oh yeah, 300 million Americans just south of you, but we're working on that.

I think people should re-examine their motives for sneering at asylum seekers. It's usually done out of ignorance and fear.

It's blanket condemnation, that misses the point that a lot of these people (the Chinese, the Kurds, the Somalis, the Sierra Leonians and Nigerians, for example) are often facing a real and genuine threat to their lives.

So it gets on my threepenny bits when Mail readers get red-faced and shouty about them.

Also, I don't think Bugs would want to be going to his local next week and needing to ask for a pint in Bulgarian.
I'd point to the pumps and say "Stella". It's a universally understood phrase, so where's the problem? Go almost anywhere in the world and say something vaguely resembling "beer" and you'll get what you want.

Not in the slightest. In case it needs explaining, this thread is a call for tolerance.

I never mentioned anything negative about asylum seekers. My comments were aimed at your quick and easy self-righteous rant.

I am not anti asylum seekers, nor have I ever read the daily mail.

I don`t particularly like individuals from either end of the spectrum who think they hold the moral high ground to the exclusion of all other. And try to stifle debate by pigeon holing all decenters.

Think about it, it is very arrogant to attribute racist intentions to someone who just thought that your arguments where simplistic, misleading, and without basis in the reality of the situation.

I didn't say anything bad about asylum seekers, I just said that your statement was crap and baseless.

For helpful future reference - the Russian for beer is Pivo (pronounced piva). Its the same in most Slavonic languages.

How to become an illegal alien in Japan, avoiding all those nasty immigration types. Just follow these steps.

                        1- Be asian.

                        2- Speak Japanese.

3- Travel to Japan on a return air ticket, with a fixed date of returm within 3 weeks of departure. Rip it up after you arrive, as you won't be using it.

4- Take a bit of cash- enough to plausibly support you for a couple of weeks.

5- Stroll nonchalently through the airport, and head for tourist areas in Tokyo. Take a camera and pretend to take a lot of photographs; also get others to take photographs of you in front of various monuments for your friends and family back in your "home" town.

6- Relax. You're in. No-one will question you.

It's a fact. If you're asian, Japanese-speaking and just fancy bumming around in Japan entering illegally is a piece of cake.

If you're non-asian, don't speak Japanese and are fleeing for your life, you're screwed. Bad luck mate. No darkies or pale skinned devils.

                        [/blatant plagiarism]
                        That doesn't work.

First off, not all Asians look like Japaneses, you have to be East Asians to have half a chance.

Secondly, Koreans look differently from Japaneses from Chinese, even if only subtly so.

You don't have a chance unless you look Japanese and speak native Japanese.

Besides, Koreans don't open bars in Japan, neither do the Chinese.

Yeah, you're waaaay off on japan.

Your types might work if the hypothetical Asian was not:
                          Korean
                          Chinese
                          Filipino
                          Viet Namese

                          etc, etc...

I don't think the Japanese have a problem with Mongolians or Indonesians though.

I thought CommonWealth citizens could freely immigrate to other CommonWelath countries.

They could freely emigrate to the UK until the 1968 Commonwealth Immigrants Act.

You can chalk yourself up some "Awkward squad" points if you like, if only for the fact that you appear to be arguing against accusations that nobody's made against you. Nice touch.
