I'm not too fond of the Xbox. it (was) overpriced and few games on the market at this moment here. I may buy a Gamecube though, but more out of nostaligia (since I've owned every nintendo system ever). Can't wait to play new Mario games
Swedish sales list week 20, I think this is pretty the same for whole Europe:
1. Sims: On Holiday (PC)
2. Star Wars Rogue Squadron II Rogue Leader (NGC)
3. Luigi's Mansion (NGC)
4. FIFA World Cup 2002 (PS2)
5. Half-Life Third Generation (PC)
6. Dungeon Siege (PC)
7. Halo (Xbox)
8. Sims Hot Date (PC)
9. FIFA World Cup 2002 (PC)
10. Star Wars Jedi Knight II Jedi Outcast (PC)
11. Sims (PC)
12. Super Monkey Ball (NGC)
13. Heroes of Might & Magic IV (PC)
14. Virtua Fighter 4 (PS2)
15. Sonic Adventure 2 Battle (NGC)
16. Medal of Honor Allied Assault (PC)
17. Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty (PS2)
18. FIFA World Cup 2002 (PS one)
19. Final Fantasy VI (PS one)
20. Grand Theft Auto 3 (PS2)
Those are strongly misleading figures, since it's the Gamecube's launch.
Halo's been out for months, and it's still on the top 10. Third for console sales (notice it beats out PS2?)

Note that Sony is already working on a PS3. In 3.5-4 years I'll buy that instead of an X-box
PS3 will be out in 2005, and MS plans to launch the Xbox^2 on the same day.
Sony looks to be screwing up with the PS3 again. They're doing more massively parallel hardware which gives huge theoretical specs, but are a PAIN IN THE ASS to code for (see: Saturn, PS2). Developers hate it, and it's always full of bottlenecks anyway.
MS and Nintendo keep making stronger, more straight-forward hardware. Developers love that much, much more.

it doesn't. Fifa 2002 on the PS2 is higher than Halo.
That doesn't count, because it's also on the Xbox (I own it)
Better graphics and surround sound, too...

really? haven't heard of anything like that. And PS3 info came out quite some time ago already. I'm sure Sony is ahead in development...
It took Sony 4 years to develop the PS2 with Toshiba.
It took Microsoft 1.5 years to develop the Xbox.
Which is a better console?
MS has been working on Xbox^2, regardless.
There have been quite a few stories on The Register about it.

only the PS2 PSone and PC version are in that chart. the xbox version doesn't sell that well it seems.
Gee, I wonder if more people own PS2, PSOnes, and PCs than Xboxes, which would certainly explain that?
And Halo is the ONLY Xbox game in the charts
Nintendo's launch bumped the rest off. Wait a few weeks for the figures to normalize again.

duh. they just took an average PC, and downsized it.
Which was smart because:
The costs of components drops significantly faster than Sony's proprietary Emotion Engine
Developers are already familiar with most of the architecture
It's incentive for publishers because they can easily port the game to the PC after
The hardware is already proven
The result? An easier to program for, better looking, cheaper to produce (over time) console.

then why say: "notice it beats out PS2?"
and it clearly doesn't.
Multiplatform games are useless to count, they don't offer incentive.
Halo is not multiplatform.
