I don't know if Europe has it or not (they got some Euro-sports game first), but I haven't seen ISS here in North America.

What types of games do you like? How important is online gaming to you for consoles? I might be able to help you choose.

            Game I like:

            Soccer
            RPG
            shoot-strategy (like 007)
            Car-racing

Online gaming is not important since I'll most likely invite my friends to play with me.

My parents do not finance me for purchasing of videogames, and I cannot afford to spend milions of dollars on a consoule and some games

I think you already answered your question about which console to get if the partial list I gave of current and upcoming GC games I gave to Asher appeals to you.

However, I could bring you a list of RPG games if you wish.

Sony's really getting on my nerves lately. They keep saying the console wars are over despite soaring Gamecube and Xbox sales and slowing PS2 sales.
Funny. Here we get reports that MS is losing the console wars, and the the PS2 is outselling both competetors.

It's not the graphics but the games that count. For PS2, it already has a vast store of PS games that can be played. Nintendo is a veteran console marker company. Before the Xbox came out I had predicted that it would be MS that would have the most trouble.

PS2 is outselling both competitors, but how does that mean the war is lost?

PS2 sales are declining faster than Gamecube or Xbox, which is why they were first to cut the price and everyone else did to stay competitive. PS2 is losing lots of its old exclusives (MGS2, for example) that come to competing consoles in better ways.

You get reports that MS is losing the console wars, even when they've had a more successful first 7 months than Sony's PS2 alone? Give me a break.

It's wishful thinking on PS2 fanboys and Sony's part. If they tell people the console wars are over enough they'll keel over and buy a PS2. I'm not that dense.

And with Xbox Live (once it launches and dwarfs Sony's piss poor plan, plus exclusive games like Brute Force, Project Ego, Blinx, Panzer Dragoon Orta, Ninja Gaiden, what have you, PS2 will really feel the crunch.

You should see the IGN Xbox boards and see the effect E3 (which only just started) has had on people. There's tons of "I caved to the dark side!" posts about people acquiring Xboxes despite already owning a PS2.

It's not the graphics but the games that count. For PS2, it already has a vast store of PS games that can be played. Nintendo is a veteran console marker company. Before the Xbox came out I had predicted that it would be MS that would have the most trouble.
You don't know the first thing about the Xbox, its games, or anything else about consoles. What you know is its MS, so you predicted (hoped) it would fail.

It's surpassed everyone's wildest expectations (last year at E3 they didn't even think it'd launch) and continues to sell well in North America especially, and has just quadrupled its sales in the ailing Japanese market as of last week (which is pretty good considering the first real Japanese games are still about 6-8 months away).

And of course (duh) it's the games that count. You're not being insightful here like you seem to think you are. But having awesome graphics and awesome sound does not detract from gameplay. Rather, it can enhance it by being more immersive.

I can't stand the people who think good graphics and sound are mutually exclusive with good gameplay. That idea mostly stems from PlayStation 2 fanboys who try to convince themselves of that very idea.

200+ Xbox games, 150+ Gamecube games to come by year end. The "vast library" excuse for PS2 is going down the drain.

still only negative reports about xbox here. perhaps they aren't doing so well in Holland/Europe.

and how are they doing in Japan, when compared to the Japanese consoles.

                          PS2 is outselling both competitors
until that changes, no reason to fear Sony will lose the console war. sure their sales are relatively declining, which is only logical since they have been around longer and have already sold way more. And since Final Fantasy won't be released on the GC/XB I see no reason to trade in my PS2 just yet

In the UK they're doing well, the rest of Europe is only soso.

Europe is a highly illogical region so it's not too surprising.

and how are they doing in Japan, when compared to the Japanese consoles.
It's selling half as much as the Gamecube (which has about 4-5x the games out for it), and the PS2 is selling way more than both of them.

Japan is a lost cause for the Xbox, IMO. They've never been too keen on American consoles, except for MS' first console 'MSX' over a decade ago (where Metal Gear Solid was born, actually).

until that changes, no reason to fear Sony will lose the console war.
It's literally impossible for them to lose the console war. They could stop selling now and still be successful.

But only a fool would think Xbox and GC have "lost" or are "losing" since their marketshare is growing also, and more and more games keep getting announced for both. They're all "winners" in that sense here.

And since Final Fantasy won't be released on the GC/XB I see no reason to trade in my PS2 just yet
I've never been a fan of Final Fantasy. At all.

I own both PS2 and Xbox, and honestly, I've used my Xbox far, far, far more than the PS2 ever since I got it. It spoils you once you're used to the Xbox.

                              in dutch though

Microsoft maakte (daarentegen) moeilijke tijden door met zijn gameconsole Xbox.
transl: Microsoft is going through some hard times with it's gameconsole XBox.

It does say the price cut helped though:

In Groot-Brittanni‰ zouden er nu per week net zoveel Xbox consoles als Playstations 2 over de toonbank gaan.
transl: In Great Britain there are now as many Xbox consoles as Playstation 2s sold per week.

still not a great succes, considering this was before PS2 pricecuts and considering the PS2 is a lot older.

Xbox also had an identical pricecut, no?
And PS2 is a "lot older", but that also means it has a lot more games still.

And as people have said, it's the games that count.

Now that Xbox has the most powerful hardware, a real online plan, and tons of games you'll see why it's climbing up everyone's sales charts and PS2 is moving down.

I predict in 1.5-2 years Xbox will be selling twice as many units per week than Sony. By then, the PS2 will be 3.5-4 years old already and will look incredibly dated to the Xbox, along with having comparable modern game selections. And for the same price. Xbox is still cheaper if you want to buy multi-tap, ethernet, HD, or memory cards though.
