Heh. I'd like to see Nintendo, Sony and MS with 33.3 percent of the market each, give or take a percentage point apiece to leave room for smaller companies and/or individuals. That would be a good marketplace arrangement ... too bad it likely won't come to fruition.

The next Sonic game may not actually be coming to the Gamecube.

After all, the Sonic Team is working on an Xbox Exclusive game right now and Sega refuses to name the console for the next Sonic game.

I just checked out an in-game movie off Blinx. Nice graphics. Nice sound. I just didn't feel the urge to play it.

IMO, only the Japanese and Brits (read: Rare) know how to make video games.

Blinx is still 7 months away from release, and from the IGN GameCube boards about 80% of the GCN people posting are whining about how they want it.

I don't honestly see how you can want to play Mario Sunshine but not Blinx. Sunshine is Mario 64 with a waterpack.

I swear, if the cat was Mario you'd go into orgasm right now.

But if you think only the Japanese and Brits can make good games, you definitely picked the right console.

I can't stand Pokemon and Mario games. So unoriginal, it's milking the Franchise like the Jason X movie.

              I want originality over repetition.
Japanese developers are even more into the pop culture than American teenagers. It's sick.

Asher, do you realize that the GameCube is more than Mario and Pokemon?

                    DreamCast ports don't count.

And I meant next sonic game.

Well, (as you may have guessed) Mario64 was my all-time favourite game. [nerd mode]Playing it was almost a religious experience for me. [/nerd mode]. I still have erotic dreams about it.

And hearing Sunshine is a sheer continuation of M64 is just great, IMO. Why change a winning concept?

I don't have a "thing" for Mario, really. He could be a transsexual cheerleader for all I care. It's the environments and moods that the games are all abouts. I just know that everything Miyamoto touches turns to gold. yup

                        Not really, according to Nintendo.

It's the same damn franchizes over and over and over.
Here's a run down of their press conference today:
                      • Metroid Prime
                      • Resident Evil 0
                      • Eternal Darkness
                      • Super Mario Sunshine
                      • Wario World
                      • Zelda
                      • F-Zero
                      • 1080 Snowboarding
                      • Star Fox Adventures

Which one of those is not based on a franchise?

Except for the 3 Zelda games which never made it to market.

What about Pikmin? Does anyone actually like that?

Star Fox hasn't been a platformer before, IIRC. It used to be a shooter with crappy vector graphics.

I think it's very hard to break through with new characters when it comes to platformers/cartoons. Just look at Donald Duck, been around forever. Most of the new attempts have been done before, and better.

I LIKE franchise games. I know what I'm getting, plus some new stuff.

What is Square's status with regard to exclusive deals? Still all Sony?

Asher, go to the website and you'll se a wealth of good games that are due out. None of which are the derivative peices of crap that you seem to be suggesting. And even a few of the franchises that you list here are taking chances with an established formula: ex. Star Fox Adventures - Dinosaur Planet.
